Hey guys, new here to the forum. I don't know too much about the subject matter and it's history, although I had seen couple posts on here & on reddit about OpenXR support on Dolphin officially now that it's available. Are there any updates on this or is there something preventing any progress?

I tried the unofficial version that was abandoned years ago now and whipped up Metroid Prime inside it. My god it was amazing. I think it would be a real treat to see it working officially and with more updates/fixes to some other games that currently have graphics bugs as well as more support for emulating Wii-motes using tracking from your VR Controllers.

I'd be happy to help in terms of testing those versions. I currently use a Quest 1 with VirtualDesktop connecting to my PC, So hey if there's ever a Oculus Dolphin release too I'd be happy to try that. Thanks guys! <3

The short answer is there isn't any active development of a direct solution going on (that I know of).

Me and another user have been working on OpenXR support outside of Dolphin using FreeLook with something called DorsalVR. It allows for a "TV Mode" currently but also supports VR controllers. An "Immersive Mode" is planned, however we're still waiting on a number of the FreeLook changes to be merged in and the owner of DorsalVR is also fixing things up on that end. This feature should provide a pretty solid VR experience though it may feel slightly different than a direct solution (hard to say, I don't own a VR device). It doesn't impede a direct solution from being implemented but has benefits for non-VR users as well (ex: triple wide monitor users, ultrawide, general based headtracking, etc).

I'll be keen to give it some testing since I have VR, although as you mentioned with the "immersive mode" that'd be more what I would be looking towards compared to a TV kind of thing. I already have EmuVR for stuff like that.

Part of the magic I saw in the unofficial abandoned version is the fact you could be immersed in old titles you couldn't previously do before. (Like Metroid full 360 etc). I saw that thread on here but unless I'm stupid, I thought that was from 2019. I guess I was curious if there was a change of pace in the last 2 years since.
