Hello All,

I'm not sure where to post this, but this seemed like a good place. I'm using the latest release candidate - version 5 as of this writing - on a Mac Mini (2.5G core i5 - Intel HD 4000 with 1G vram). Stock settings in all panels except for a few changes for the controller mapping.

I open Mario Party 9, and it works without issue, but the "board" view sections are about half framerate, including the title sequence and menus. The minigames work at full framerate and perfect sound - likely because there's less going on. So, this is all expected with my hardware.

While the game was running (on title sequence), I clicked the toolbar in Dolphin to open the graphics panel - to see if there was something I could do to speed things up. As soon as the panel opened, the framerate jumped to 100%, and the game ran perfectly, and stayed there until I closed the emulation and restarted it. This only seems to work with the graphics panel. Note, I don't change anything - it happens as soon as the panel opens, and as I said everything is stock settings.

This is 100% reproducable every time. I don't have any other games to try, but it's working here. Any ideas? Does something initialize in the background when the panel is opened? I mean, I'll take it, but I'm very curious as to why this is happening. I don't remember this happening in version 4, only when I jumped to the release candidates.

Thanks for any input you can provide!

Opening the graphics panel forces the settings to those in the graphics panel, rather than the settings present in the game INI. This could break some things if e.g. the game required EFB2Texture off, but the defaults in the graphics panel were to have it on.

This is a pretty terrible UI, but for the time being, it's how it works.

Thanks so much for the reply! Just read an article about your involvement in the project.  Thanks so much for all you've done!

This is pretty interesting.  I brought up the game properties, and all settings are set as "Undetermined." Opening the default configuration, I see that the only mod is:

[Video_Hacks]
EFBToTextureEnable = False

I can see that in the graphics panel, it's set to on, so I guess it's this one hack that makes everything work so perfectly.

Given that, what's the best way to set this to default for when the game opens? Should I just remove that from the default config? Is that possible given that it's saying it's read only?

I see an empty file come up when I click "Edit Config," should I add the reverse command to that file?

Sorry for all the questions - new to this wonderful piece of code. Thanks again!

EDIT: I found that I could just comment out that line in the default ini, and it saved correctly. Games works beautifully now!

Most games have internal gameinis to set recommended settings for you, however, up to date configuration recommendations can usually be found for your game at the dolphin wiki.

Since this is a very common question, I added it to the faq -> https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/#dolphin-speeds-when-i-open-graphics-menu
