Is it possible to open game images directly from RAR archives? I did some Google searching and found a (very) few posts here and there about a setting in the options along the lines of "treat archives as normal file systems" or some such, but I can't find anything like that in any of the settings. I assume that if this feature actually did exist then it may have been removed somewhere along the way?

I would really like to be able to use RAR archives because for some of the disc images it saves up to half of the 1.4 GB size (for instance, Super Mario Sunshine can compress in a RAR to around 700 MB). Playing games from my DVD drive doesn't really work very well (I have the same issue with other CD/DVD based game emulators) so I'd prefer to just rip the game discs and play the images directly.

Dolphin has built in compression that is completely lossless and totally reversible. It saves all the space yet is fully playable by Dolphin. You can't get any better than that. Just right click the game in the gamelist and hit compress. That simple. As for how much it compresses, that depends on the disk.

It compresses pretty well, and it's especially better on Wii discs.
