As 5.0 is released for quite a while already, I'm thinking of dropping the old texture format and so also the converter.

Are there still texture packs using the old format? If so, what is missing to convert them to the new one?

The stable 5.0 release will always be available to convert old texture packs. So I hope not to loose any texture work.

What do you think?

Sure, no complains from me. I see no reason why to keep the Texture Format Converter alive since the new texture format has been around for quite some time for most users to get adjusted to, and as you said, the old builds still remain when needed so. So far, I suppose that the latest development build (5.0-1318) still has the convert feature, correct?

I do believe that Razius intended for update his Super Mario Sunshine and Super Paper Mario texture packs in the new texture format in the following months.

I still am, generally, but for the next 2 months imma have some time to spare so i'll try and release some dormant packs (started them back in 2012) i have, but they are only HUDs and some particles, no ingame textures. Need to dump them for this new format.

Super Mario Sunshine Im going to re-release the pack in PNG format, fixing some textures and adding the missing fonts (coz im sure i have them). I might also release some ingame textures from back in 2012

I've also noticed that new tool that converts Glide64 textures into Dolphin ones so i can use it to convert my Super Paper Mario project from the old Dolphin format into the new one as well. So it will prob take me a while to release something (a week or a month, depends if im gonna start playing SPM right now or work on Rayman 3 and Mario Sunshine).

Please don't remove the texture converter! I have textures in my load folder of games I have yet to play through and have converted. There are still textures that have yet to be converted which is Insane Slugs texture packs of Twilight Princess, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Mario Sunshine Painted Edition.

TY-Anderson has yet to convert this texture packs to the new format.

You will always able to use 5.0 to convert those textures to the new format.

I'm fine with using 5.0 for dumping alone.

The only thing I can think of is that in the Xenoblade thread I have a repository of dumped images awaiting for future contributors to retexture. I believe a decent chuck of them are still in the old format, awaiting to be retextured and of course converted to the new format.

But if someone really is serious about actually going back and retexturing them, the stable 5.0 release should be easy enough to go back and download for that purpose.

I'm not even sure if it's feasible/possible but what about a standalone converter? E.g. a simple app that you throw your texture folders at it then wait for the conversion?

It's not possible as we need to origin texture to calculate the new hash. That's why the converter is built-in in dolphin and only convert on accessing this texture Wink

Just wondering (rather, I am quite curious), and yes I am fine with the choice either way (I trust that it is in the benefit of Dolphin in the long term). But does leaving the texture format converter code within Dolphin cause any drawbacks on the long term? Would it prevent parts of the code to be properly maintained? In there any particular reason how Dolphin would be improved or benefits from it by removing the converter?

Just a bit of code complexity. But not that much. As long as texture packs don't use both formats at once, it's also no performance issue (checking both hashes). My biggest concern is to get all texture pack converted, as there are of course still the pitfalls of the old format (eg texture hash accuracy)
