The difference between the 256bit and 192bit cards is very small to prefer one over the other.
The 1GB card does have more space for textures etc, so if you play games with high-res textures, or plan to use high res textures in Dolphin, having that 1GB would be really nice.

When you mean high res textures in Dolphin, are you referring to texture packs ala N64 emulation or just running 4x IR?

Thanks again for the info. This thread has really helped me.

Raising the Internal Resolution increases your pixel count, but the textures are still low quality (but do get scaled if you have Scaled EFB Copy turned on, but it'll be blurry).
And ever since Dolphin got the feature to dump and load custom textures, high res textures projects (like in the n64 scene) have emerged.
You can find some of em in this thread.

Here is a nice comparison on a high IR vs the native Wii resolution. You can clearly count those pixels on the Wii.
(Might contains Skyward Sword spoilers if you haven't played it already)

I'd recommend the GTX 550 ti or GTX 560 SE over a 460.

I'm not sure what his intentions are, but with a new video card he'd be in decent shape with his current CPU for most of the games he listed. Obviously he'd be able to do more with the high-end CPU mentioned, but he's already able to play many games well as it is with a nice overclock.
Asus Laptop: K53TA
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit - SP1
CPU: AMD Llano A6-3400M, Quad-Core, 1.4GHz-2.6GHz (Overclocked)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD6650M, 1GB GDDR3 (Catalyst 13.1)
RAM: Samsung 4GB DDR3-1333

Oh wow those high res textures look nice. I definitely want the ability to use them. Thanks for the links.

Honestly I just started messing with Dolphin recently and figured out how awesome it is, and I want to try to get by with some of the hardware I have laying around until I can piece together a better Dolphin machine. All I have to work with is the E6300, the Q6600, and a G630 in a mobo that won't overclock. I have been going back and forth about which is better so I am happy to gain so much information from the thread.

If the GTX 460 is going to hold back a future CPU in Dolphin I do want to know though. Whatever GPU I get will get paired with that i5 within a year so it would be nice to know that I would be good at that point.

Not at all.

If you want the best bang for buck dolphin-wise, get a GTX 550 ti.
If you want PC gaming, get a 560 Ti.

Well I looked and I just couldn't find a GTX 550 ti for less than $100, so I bit on an 1GB (I think V2) GTX 460. Thank you everyone for your advice, I can't wait to unlock Dolphin with that new card.

460 is superior to 550 ti, so you got a bargain.

Yeah, I've given him an overview on the first page. Tongue

The 460GTX is faster than the 550GTX, but does use more power. What PSU do you have?
