Idk if this goes here or not, but I just want to ask for general purposes. I have got a i5-2500k clocked at 3.3Ghz and I was wondering if it recommended to OC just to get better performance in most games, I mean is this CPU good for OC, if so what's a good tool to get the job done? Thanks.

Start by OCing it to 4 GHz assuming you have a decent cooler, then go from there. If you have a pretty good cooler, go for at least 4.5 GHz.
If you have water cooling or a really nice air cooler you can try for 4.7-5.0GHz. (you need to know what your doing to get to these kind of speeds, but its probably doable on most 2500ks) Its definitely a waste of money to get that CPU and only run it at stock speed. Its capable of running Dolphin at full speed with LLE if you overclock it. What mobo do you have? Your mobo might have auto overclock settings. My Asrock board can actually auto-OC it to 4.8 GHz with a single setting change and it runs stable. There are many guides on the internet, and possible guides for your specific mobo out there. But in general on these CPUs, you just need to increase the voltage slightly, and raise the multiplier to 40+ and you can start overclocking. You only need to start fiddling with the complicated settings at the faster speeds starting around 4.5 GHz. 11-13-2011, 10:36 AM
That CPU is excellent for overclocking. You don't have to, but you should especially for games like SMG2 and Twilight Princess.

On my Asrock Z68 extreme 4 (first revision when Z68 came out) I can get it to run stable at 4.8 GHz under water cooling. I can get it to boot and run short bench tests at higher speeds, but it either overheats or a I get a clock BSOD error at that point. Seems my particular CPU just doesn't want to run 5 GHz, or I just need a larger radiator or a better mobo.
Anyway in Dolphin I can run RE4 at 1080p full speed with LLE audio, and this new Zelda game appears to run just fine. The dolphin emu still has some lag though, no matter how fast your CPU is. I would say it currently isn't good enough to play competitive brawl yet. (even turning on HLE and turning the graphics down, it still lags here and there, at least on the revs I've used) So just know that cranking the cpu up won't solve all of your speed issues, (especially dolphin timing/thread sync issues) but it will make most of your games playable with LLE at full speed most of the time. 11-14-2011, 02:12 PM
I hope you have that CPU on a P67 or Z68 motherboard. If not you're sh*t outta luck.
