Nvidia Shield 2017 Dualshock 4 R1 L1 not being detected

Hi all, i have a 2017 Nvidia Shield running Dolphin 5.0-9208 with 2nd gen (i think) Dualshock 4 controllers (led strip on touchpad) I can map any button EXCEPT L1 or R1. The controllers works fine in other emulators and other games but i can't seem to get those 2 buttons to get detected/mapped. Any help? Really need to map a Z button...

Strange, from other reports usually it's the left joystick that doesn't work.

And just to confirm this is an issue mapping the buttons, where the button binding screen does nothing when R1/L1 are pressed? Or is the issue that they do bind but do nothing once in game?

Also, are you connecting via bluetooth or usb?

Correct, the binding screen does nothing when i press L1 or R1 to try and map them. I had it connected via bluetooth. I was searching for more posts to see if there was someone with the same issue as me and i found this post.
