Did you buy a 34rd part one? ... I did... I bought 4, and I'm on my last one now. I think its best to get nintendo brands only.

If you are not sure that your nunchuck is original, then it's not. I had a Nintendo branded Wiimote+Nunchuck but it was not original, once you see an original one you can see small but important differences, especially in the connectors. My nunchuck also died and I bought an original one which I'm sure will last much more than my old one.

Anyway, it would probably be best to test it with another Wiimote or on a real Wii. If it doesn't work then it will need replacing.

I fixed one of my chucks by using an extension cable. Seem the cables hold tighter then the wands.

It's a good idea to keep a dead chuck just in case. I kept my old one which also had some wires cut in the connector. Sadly I'm not that patient when it comes to fix things like this.
