I'm having the same half-speed issue. Not a hardware issue, everything runs fine. The game will also glitch out and crash at the end of dialogue scenes. Not sure what the issue is.

UPDATE: Reinstalling the code and activating the run speed code fixed that issue.

The game still crashes at the end of dialogue scenes and after getting the last quest from the multi-quest givers, along with large hitches in battle, making the game unplayable in 60 FPS.

Well I spent considerable time getting all of this up and working. First time with a lot of gecko codes so at least I learned something. Even with the latest Dolphin and everything my 2600K and 1080ti will get 60 most of the time, but then it drops to 30 or whatever when running in certain places mostly because of the other codes it seems.

I absolutely need to use the draw distance codes as I cannot play games like this anymore that load stuff in 4 feet in front of me. This game looks old for sure, and without the HD pack and other codes it just doesn't do it for me. The texture pack is definitely nice, but performance is a major issue with all the stuff together. It's not too bad at all without the other codes, but as soon as I start putting in a couple other codes for draw distance it tanks the thing. Without those codes, especially the object code, things look terrible.

I should mention I am playing in 4K. I could try 1440p, but honestly I don't think this game really holds up all that well from a tech stand point, and I have too many games to play as it is.

When I play Xenoblade, I like to play on Dolphin on my shared PC, but when someon else is using it, I like to play on play on the wii instead. Because of that, I have an emunand on my SD card that both USB loader gx and Dolphin are configured to use. So I can just take the SD out of my pc, into my wii, and it just works.

However, you mention that the code only needs to be run once and then it somehow stores(?) itself in the save file. If this is correct, then when I pop my card into my real wii, would it try to run 60fps and lag like hell? If so, is there a way to avoid this? Sorry if this has been asked already, but I couldn't find anything about it.

Hullo! I wanted to say thank you for this brilliant piece of work. It's filled a little hole in my heart that I didn't know what to do about. This is beautiful work especially with the HD package (putting my high end PC to good work!), streaming it over Steamlink to the TV with the kids - it's all really something else. I'd never experienced this game before and it's nice to play it before number 2 on the Switch. My son is starting on the SNES classic with old Mario now; I'm looking forward to him eventually graduating to this on the Wii.

A couple of queries:

Can anyone link me to exactly where it's explained about whether I'm supposed to disable the entire code (doesn't make sense to me) or a single line (exactly which one) after running the code in game?

My performance is already great, though I had to switch from synchronous to asynchronous ubershaders to cater to audio stuttering that happens when I'm in the map view (playing on 1440p x4 native resolution with x2 SSAA). Using OpenGL for G-sync - Direct3D worked for G-sync until a few days ago, not sure why I have to use OpenGL now but hey.

There's also a curious bug where it doubles my play time. It doesn't look like it's doubling the speed of the in game day clock, though. Is there any way to fix this? Not that it really matters.

Hi there, registered just to ask this.....how you got to solve the symbols on the executable? Asking because I wanted to make a controller hacking myself and only found one relevant function name to what I wanted (WPADProbe). Do you have more symbols? If you don't, how you got those? Fully RE? Thanks!

*Update Jan 5th: Fixed Melia skill effects not displaying, some loading screen bugs (affected intro with Dunban having too many fire effects), and a possible movie color saturation bug for a few effects. Also tried to prevent an action-pause bug that happened when Spanish is setup. JP updated too, fixed JP typo that made a few cutscenes progress too fast (oops, thought I had fixed this before).
Final Update (unless new bugs are reported) - Discussion for final update starts around This Post

Guide to using the code:
Guide: (Show Spoiler)
To avoid some issues, the code is made to still work 100% after being turned off. To remove the code, save in-game, then turn off the cheat and restart the game, then load an in-game save.

Right click the game in Dolphin's menu -> properties -> edit config. There should be a [Gecko] tag, if not create one. Paste the code under the [Gecko] tag and save/exit.  It should look like the following, but does not need to be the first/topmost gecko code:

[Gecko]
$60fps
code

Enable in game:
  • Turn on Cheats in the Dolphin Config menu.
  • Run the game, do not pause Dolphin while applying the cheat.
  • Go to Tools -> Cheat Manager, enable the code and hit apply, disable the code and hit apply. Disabling the code avoids some bugs without breaking 60fps.
  • Disabling the code may cause issues with other gecko codes.  To use multiple codes you can leave the 60fps code enabled or try putting the 60fps code at the very bottom of the gecko section in the game's ini, enable all codes you want, then disable 60fps.

Tips/Settings:
To make sure you're getting a constant 60 fps, you can enable Graphics -> Show FPS.

Factors that affect constant/smooth 60 fps are:
  • Dual core settings are under Xenoblade's game properties and Config -> Dual core. Should be best to turn both on.
  • Vulkan graphics backend works best.
  • Config -> CPU Clock Override (try not to go above 125% or so, but experiment with it) - mostly in large battles.
  • Internal Resolution and Anti-Aliasing
  • If V-Sync is on, you may need to change the XFB setting.
  • EFB store copies to texture only - can give  a massive speed boost, and only majorly breaks the screenshots for the save menu.
  • Ignore format changes and skip efb access from the CPU can be checked.
  • XFB can usually be disabled, or set to virtual. ("Store XFB to texture only" in newer versions of Dolphin)
  • Fast Depth Calculation (may glitch the sky in Makna Forest) and Enable Bounding Box can be on.
Other:
No issues with: Custom Textures, Scaled EFB (recommended), GPU texture decoding, (game properties) Speed up Disc Transfer Rate.
The wiki version of the code is the same as this one, but without comments: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Xenoblade_Chronicles
Low FPS in battles may require config -> cpu overclock of at least 110%, maybe more.

Debug/Dev Section:
Symbols File goes into Documents -> Dolphin Emulator -> Maps. Unzip them. It's used with the dolphin debugger to tell you what certain blocks of code are actually doing. It's great if you want to mess with the code at all. I had a tendency to comment single lines, which displays better in older versions of dolphin (like 5.0-3819). Also, I used my symbol file for notes and tracking down particular things, so it's not at all robust nor well refined. Search for yy_ for major code sections, xx_ for less important stuff, and there's a few more tags like ww_ which I think was for moving textures, yf_ for UI animations.  The JP symbols file has much less stuff.

My progress on 60fps movies. It is very buggy. Do not play the actual game with this code. Unlikely to be fixed.

Olá, pessoal!! Me desculpa se eu não falo inglês/English, então por favor use a tradução automática (Google Translate or Automatic Translation from Chrome browser).

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

Hello guys!! Sorry if I don't speak English, so please use automatic translation (Google Translate or Automatic Translation from Chrome browser). And don't worry, you can answer/quote me using your language naturally and I'll use automatic translation. Or if you want, for your joy, I'll leave it translated into English (using Google translator, obviously) halfway through this post until the end, ok.

Now let's get down to business!! I joined this forum to help you guys, because I have the original disc of the European version (PAL) of Xenoblade Chronicles!! My version is a PAL bundle that comes with Classic Controller Pro in red. It's beautiful, but I don't like the Pro model, I prefer the regular Classic.

And believe it or not, I did the test using all the code that user holychimpanz posted, only without comments (of course), which is this:

The test was done on my Wii, already modified to use the imported GC and Wii games on my Wii. To use the code, I used the ARtoOcarina tool to place codes and generate a GCT file and import it to the SD card. The app I used to run the Wii disc with cheat is WiiLauncher, which is the alternative GeckoOS for Wii mode (I haven't tested another app yet, so if necessary, let me know which one I should use for the next tests).

The game ran normally and I noticed on the title screen that it feels like 60 fps (frames per second - for english is frames per second - fps). I loaded one of the saves and started at the entrance to Bionis' leg. I did a quick test (about 45 minutes), because it was kind of late and I need to sleep, but tomorrow I'll test with more time or daily that I'll inform you here little by little. So I will give the following report after the quick test.

Another suggestion of mine is that I will make some videos to demonstrate the test results, if necessary, for better understanding/analysis, so it will help some of you to have an idea and know what codes are needed for such corrections, ok.

Apoiado!! Eu também tenho o disco original da versão europeia (PAL) e ingressei justamente para isso que vou ajudar fazendo os testes.

Supported!! I also have the original disc of the European version (PAL) and I joined it precisely for this reason I will help by doing the tests.
