As I recall correctly, the "fix" for NTSC brawl only gets past part of the issue: it successfully passes some check and makes the Insert Disc screen go away, and then crashes immediately for some other reason. They haven't really figured out what it's trying to do that's crashing it. But that's third hand information, I just remember reading it.
