Unless you want to make metro apps. Everyone bitched about Apple charging $5 for Xcode4 now its $500 if you want C++11 support or switch compilers. What happened to developers developers developers?
No VS11 Express

That likely just means that no desktop libraries will be shipping with the installer, i.e. you'll still be able to compile desktop apps by installing the Windows Platform SDK.

![]() Y U No make open source compiler But seriously, is there a reason that windows applications must be compiled with that, rather than a different compiler?

Since when could you make anything worth while with ANY version of the express compiler.
You're delusional to think you could. ffs, you could barely make a .net program with 2010 express If Microsoft's VS11 Express changes are a problem, you're doing it wrong 05-31-2012, 09:37 AM

Quote:Since when could you make anything worth while with ANY version of the express compiler. Then I and the rest of the world must be delusional. I've been making .NET applications with vs2010 express for the last year and the only .NET specific limitation I can think of is the lack of asp .NET which can be done through web developer express instead. The article you linked says it perfectly: Quote:What was typically missing from the Visual Studio Express editions was anything to do with application lifecycle management (ALM) – ie, issue tracking, continuous integration, modelling, and so on. Express wasn't and isn't about "proper" software engineering. Fairly good list of express limitations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_V...io_Express Ultimately it boils down to: -a lot of people don't want to use old stuff (understandable) -a lot of people don't want to pay lots of money for stuff that used to be free (understandable) How the author is incapable of understanding these two basic things that apply to all products/people is baffling. Considering this news in now many months old I'm surprised this is just now being posted. Actually come to think of this I posted this info. awhile back in the windows 8 thread and nobody responded: http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread...48&page=30

When the alternative is to spend $499 its probably going become the #1 feature request though. 06-01-2012, 11:16 AM
