Something is wrong. I thought Windows x86 (32bit) was dropped for being old hat, and now Ubuntu packages are gone. What happened? Is this an error, because I did not read anything about Windows 32bit support coming back even though it shows the download on the download page, and Ubuntu isn't even there anymore.

32-bit support isn't back. Also you now need to compile yourself for ubuntu.

Yeah, I just looked an realized that I had forgotten Dolphin 4.x originally had x86 support. But about Ubuntu, why? Now it's way more difficult to set up.

We still support Linux. We just don't distribute Ubuntu packages anymore because releasing a package for one version of one distro is silly, and changing the version supported whenever we need newer compilers, libs or whatever is also silly. There are still options for Linux users.

One, compile from source, works with all distros:

https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Building_Dolphin_on_Linux

Two, a user supports an ubuntu PPA for Dolphin. It pulls from git:

https://launchpad.net/~dolphin-emu/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

I only recommend the first option because if you tie Dolphin revisions to your system updates, whenever you update Dolphin, your shader cache will become invalidated and will have to be rebuilt for all of your games (causing stuttering while it does so)

Okay, having one package for one distro is silly. However, how difficult might it be to create a Linux script that is able to compile source to all or at least most distros? Like, for instance, how Steam can be downloaded and installed on most Debian based distros with a "point and click" GUI application for simplicity. Even though it might only be for Debian based distros, I believe Debian is the foundation for many desktop Linux operating systems.

I doubt it would be easy, but I thought I'd ask anyways just for my own education.

So updating self-built Dolphin won't invalidate your shader cache?

Or when building Dolphin, you choose not to recompile if you want to keep your shader cache?

Updating Dolphin's binary by any method invalidates the cache.

What he means is, if you get Dolphin from the PPA, every time you run sudo apt-get to update your system, it will update Dolphin also (since Dolphin updates so frequently).

But if you compile from source yourself, then Dolphin updating won't be tied to the system updates, and you can update Dolphin as often or not, at your choosing.

AFAIK the PPA is updated every two weeks, not on every new Dolphin commit...

You can also hold the package, i.e. `echo "dolphin-emu-master hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections` to prevent it from being updated when you update your system.
