no controllers work

I am trying to get a mouse, keyboard, or generic USB gamaepad to work with dolphin. I am trying to use My Fitness Coach. It requires no more then basically a mouse. I can get a hand icon to show up and highlight option but when I click the mouse nothing happens. I have tried to change my controller to the keyboard and gamepad and mapped keys. This doesn't work.

Did you assign a mouse button to A or B?
What happens when you click default in the Wiimote configuration and then try again with your mouse without changing buttons?
Some games use A (the face button) to click and some games use B (the trigger) to click, did you also try the other mouse button?

I was unable to assign buttons to the mouse. When I tried to configure the mouse I would click to assign a button but then when it was looking for input it would not register the mouse click.

I did try opening then closing the configuration without making changes. No luck.
I also tried assigning buttons to the keyboard but again they would register the click of either the A button or trigger
