I've never had a day-one console, but I'm pretty sure this will be the one for me. LoZ Breath of the Wild had me sold as soon as I saw it (and not on Wii U because Wii U is dead to me now)
Everything else will be icing on the cake

That click sound from the reveal trailer is surprisingly enjoyable. I hope the real console does that when attaching/detaching the controllers too Tongue

Anyway, I'm pretty exited about Nintendo Switch too, and the fact that the dock is more than double the thickness of the actual console makes me bet that it may house extra hardware (more memory, or an auxiliary CPU, who knows?), so it can give you good graphics on a big screen regardless of the portability...

Honestly, who will buy this except us, Nintendo fans?
I don't see why another people would be interested. As a home console, PS4 and XOne are more powerful, most people don't care about handled consoles (especially a tablet sized console, very cumbersome) since smartphones and tablets (hello PS vita), and absolutely nobody ever wants to play multiplayer NBA 2K or whatever game with only 1 stick, 4 buttons, 7" screen and a tiny pad. Plus, we again have to buy separately the Pro Controler, AKA the only controller that's acceptable for home use.
Game companies won't downgrade their games especially for Switch, so bye bye third party games. The partner list means nothing, WiiU did have one too lol.

Aslo, Skyrim is not confirmed by Bethesda.
From France with love.

I will buy it but may be 2 years later
2nd hand stuff is dirt cheap . I got a used Wii for like 1500 yen (~$15) , even my current laptop is also 2nd hand
I know I'm not helping Nintendo but a deal's a deal . If I don't buy it , someone will buy it anyway

The numbers strongly disagree with that statement. Nearly every handheld system sells better than home consoles out at the time. The 3DS has outsold the Xbox One and PS4 combined. IIRC in Japan home consoles are on a serious decline. What Nintendo is doing right now is a pretty smart move. If the Switch ends up doing well, it could easily replace the 3DS, which has already sold 60 Million units. Also just a guess, but they probably didn't want to announce Skyrim officially, as it might hurt the sales of the remastered port coming out in a week or so. That's complete speculation though.

@admin89 Monolith Soft is 100% owned by Nintendo. They're probably not listed as a partner because it's a given they're working on games for the Switch. Nintendo would be fools to let them work on games for other consoles.

I disagree as well. A lot of people are still seriously interested in portable gaming. It's just that currently most games on phones and tablets simply suck, in my opinion. There's hardly any AAA or decent games that I'd drop dozens of hours on. It's mostly quick-fix gaming. The fragmentation in hardware (i.e. add-on controllers or a bluetooth controller) also makes it hard for devs to push truly worthwhile games for the current mobile market.

You could always target specific devices like the Shield, or the GPD Win, or any of the other dozens of Android "gaming" tablets with built-in controllers, but they don't have the potential reach of Nintendo. So in effect, the distinct lack of widespread, standardized physical buttons on phones and tablets is pretty much to blame for game developers and consumers passing it up for any serious amount of gaming. It's just a cash cow for people making games like Candy Crush or Flappy Bird.

The beauty of the Switch is that it can always be a portable if you don't care about the console experience, or it can always be a console, if you don't care about the portable experience. Personally, I'm going to spend a lot of time with the Switch just sitting in my bed. I can see that now. As a console though, I think people nowadays focus too much on the "power" of systems. We're going to reach a plateau eventually where new graphics won't significantly shinier than the last generation, and CPU processing speeds will let us do plenty before totally taxing the system. At that point, it's the games that will matter the most. As long as Nintendo doesn't sit on their hands, once they give us a decent library, everyone will be all over the Switch. At least, that's how I imagine it going Wink
