RIP my money. Too much stuff announced for me to even process right now.

One thing I found especially intriguing was Hellblade, considering Microsoft's acquisition of the developer.

Things I'm particularly interested in:
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (With online play!)
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Dragon Quest XI (Still haven't played this one!)
  • Oninaki
  • Yoshi's Crafted World
  • Daemon X Machina (Maybe?)
  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Astral Train
  • Link's Awakening (Never beaten the original)
Platinum never ceases to impress me. People will call me crazy, but honestly I don't think Platinum's ever released a bad game (excluding the Activision published games). Fight me. (ง •̀_•́)ง

Link's Awakening getting a super cute Switch 3D makeover and Link Between Worlds mechanics?

I just hope they don't cutesify the music too much, as Link's Awakenings music is *amazing* and I really hope they don't limit it too much for the presentation!

As for the others, I'm... hesitant about Three Houses. I love Intelligent Systems, but like, they really aren't a great at making games. I mean, all Intelligent System games are glorious messes ( <3 Advance Wars), but Fire Emblem lately has gotten so messy I haven't been able to really stand it, with serious mechanical and story conflicts that just made it unbearable for me. So far it definitely seems like Three Heroes is inheriting the mechanics and story conflict issues from Awakening, which would imply it's going to have another Casual/Serious divider and too many characters and on and on. I can write up a little article if you want to hear my thoughts on it. :3 But! The time rewind mechanic they showed has some potential to address these, and allow permadeath to stay on yet be accessible, all without a hard switch at the start. I'm hopeful!

Yoshi's Crafted World, totally going to buy that and play it with Sonicadvance~

Yay more Captain Toad!

Super Mario Maker 2 looks good! The interface changes look good for the move to controller, and the new options are neat. Not for me, since I don't rally care for 2D mario (I much prefer 3D mario games!), but still, it looks like it will be a great game.

Astral Train... it's platinum, I don't typically enjoy platinum games, so I probably wouldn't care for it either. It looks cool though! We'll see i guess.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is curious. I wonder if they'll address my big issue with the original game - the hard resets between regions. The game only lasts like 8 hours or so, then it strips you of all of your progress and puts you into a new space, repeating the exact same mechanics and progression. And cranks the difficulty to 11 at the same time it removes all of your tools to deal with that difficulty. I just dropped the original after the first region. I beat the game, i didn't want to play it on new game+! :3

Dragon Quest 11... I want to like Dragon Quest, and I really enjoyed 9, but... 11 feels old. And not "good classic RPG" old, but like, a "new" game with 80s and 90s cultural rubbish that it really should have grown out of years ago. It feels dated, and I wish they were better than that.

Oninaki... Meh. I Am Setsuna was SO BORING, and Lost Sphear wasn't much better from my investigations at the time. And here they are with yet another RPG a year later. RPG Factory is certainly an apt name for that developer! I'll read reviews of it, but unless I see GLOWING reviews addressing my issues with their prior games directly, I'm not going to touch Oninaki.

About Link's Awakening remake, the visual style looks great but I'm a bit worried about the small side-scrolling parts. Even on the original Game Boy release I found the movement awkward and from the small section showed in the trailer the remake looks identical (despite the new graphics, of course)...

AAAAAAAND

I really hope this remake means we're getting Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons next, with the same treatment...

Link's Awakening. One of the 3 Zelda games I consider to be a perfect 10/10. I am a bit worried that the Ghibli style makes the remake feel to child-like or relaxed. The original game had it's darker moments, especially during level 7 and 8 and the end. But nevertheless, I am extremely and extremely and extremely and EXTREMELY excited for this remake, which should finally be a reason for me to purchase a Nintendo Switch as well. I really lost track of how many times I have beaten this classic gem.

I had already a feeling a 2D Zelda was coming the Switch, but I was expecting a port of A Link Between Worlds to be honest. The Oracle games were great too, but not as great as Link's Awakening. More a 8/10 for both of them. But since their graphical style is similar and since there is a remade engine for Link's Awakening, it shouldn't hopefully too difficult to realize a treatment for them as well.

But that's Zelda just now. Not to mention Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario 3D World style!), 2P mode for Captain Toad + new maps, the new Yoshi (likely not going to be a top-ranked game, but that's fine, not everything has to re-invent the wheel, just as long it can be a bit more difficulty than Kirby's Epic Yarn... Man... I could literally sleepwalk through this game and still not die once) and the new Fire Emblem of course. Since I have played the entries on the 3DS I have become of fan of the series. I love the fact Nintendo is including co-op modes recently, such as with the recent Luigi's Mansion 1 port for the 3DS.

Now that bad stuff. No one cares of that sequel from the makers from I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. Both games were lacking, and I am not confident it will this time. Dragon Quest XI? Meh... I have played it on the PC already, and I felt pretty Meh about it at the end. I couldn't bring myself to beat the post-game section, which is simply way too tedious and way too much grinding. Most of the story just went on rails. So yeah Meh. Dragon Quest might be a big deal in Japan and it might have set the standard for JRPG's once, but not in this age anymore in the west. Honestly, there are JRPG's which are far more exciting. I am extremely looking forward for the inevitable PC port of Trails of Cold Steel 3. Even Tales of Vesperia is much more exciting, given the fact the Tales of series is pretty Meh in general.

A really large issue for Dragon Quest XI is that it is sooooo heavily text-based. Even with the addition of voice-acting and item icons in the English release. The midi soundtrack is simply horrible. And literally every time I perform an action there is text. I attack. Text. I collect an item. Text. I heal. Text. I warp. Text. I already get what is happening. Why does everything needs to be dragged down with all these unnecessary dialogue boxes. The presentation of the story is actually the best of the game, but that's basically it. Combat feels like a real drag since XP is gathered at an extremely slow pace and due all these text box interruptions. The voice-acting wasn't that fantastic either...

Uhh... Did Nintendo show us anything more? I kinda forget about all the rest by now. The could have easily cut the presentation into 1/3 of the length. Ohh yeah, that new Platinum game. I can't say I am excited about it, but it has my interest piqued since it is from Platinum of course.

I really really really REAALLLY hope they get the remake of Link's Awakening right!

I wasn't expecting Mario Maker 2 so soon. I'm happy, I really love that game. A bit disappointed about the new Mario 3D Land style, which is not a 2D game to begin with so what the f*ck ? I'm a sprite lover.

About Link's Awakening : the GameBoy was so graphically limited that a lot of things on the screen are abstract and basic, which makes our imagination automatically "fills the details" with whatever we like. Personally, I'm seeing this game with a cartoonish style, because of the Intro and the artworks, but this is just an exemple, everyone have its own interpretation of this. And the "big problem" about this remake, is that the Art Director of this remake dropped all the abstract layer (which imo is still possible nowadays with 2D pixelart) and IMPOSED his vision of the game, which don't match at all with mine, and such, my brain feel betrayed. I don't like this style at all. If you do, well, good for you.

Fire Emblem looks better than E3, I don't mind low framerate on cut-scenes, MC looks good, but the story feels Awakening-Fate tier again, which is not a good thing. I guess I have to accept FE is just a waifu game now.

Overall, a good direct, Yoshi looks good even if I don't care, loots of cool little announcements, Dragon Quest stuff, Astral Chain looks interesting...
From France with love.

I downloaded the Yoshi and Daemon X Machina demos, they're really fun and I'm looking forward to their games. Definitely going to get Yoshi, still undecided on DxM.

Tetris 99 is a weird game. Don't go into it expecting to just chill out and play Tetris, you need to be really good to not get knocked out by the other players. An interesting idea though, and I have fun playing it. Still can't get better than 35th place though....

Preloaded Deltarune. Cause I played it on PC and enjoyed it, now I want to play it wherever I go and see the extra goodies that are in it for the Switch.

Already ordered the Captain Toad update because I've beaten the game 100% and want more puzzles/challenges.

I played all the BoxBoy games on the 3DS, so I was surprised that the series is making it's way to the Switch. Can't wait for it Smile

Well, after seeing it after everyone else...

For Super Mario Maker 2 and Captain Toad, I was like: "Nah I'm good, already got them on Wii U. I don't nee... *sees the new content* ... OK FINE THEN"

I'm still confused about the artistic direction of LA. Also, I've still NOT finished the original one I downloaded on 3DS (shame on me)... Sooooooo I'm gonna finish the original one first, then see if the remake will do the job. I'm also afraid it will be too "childish", but hey, I felt the same way about ALBW first...

Super Smash Bros.: THERE'S AN UPDATE!... Can't tell you now what but THERE'S AN UPDATE COMING!... Ok thanks, I guess?
More seriously, I'm really hoping of some game modes that didn't make it in the Ultimate version (not so ultimate), such as events (I'm really missing those, I must say). But I'm really expecting a Smash Direct or big news at E3...

Tetris 99: ...what the heck is tha... I NEED IT X)

Hellblade: Seems a pretty dark horror game, with almost nothing more than exploration. Honestly my type of game, waiting to see more...

As for the rest, I'm impressed to see Nintendo to give content to all categories of players. There's still some out-there that may interest me... But my list of "games to finish + games to do + games to try" is already so god damn long, that's just some more entries for now... ^^'

EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot, Deltarune... Well now you put me in a big conundrum for later. I don't know if I'll buy it on PC or on Switch then. But for now, I'll play it again on Switch gladly!

Hellblade has been around for quite a while, and they did some interresting stuff with Unreal Engine to get there (like live motion capturing and stuff; check out their GDC 2016 reveal on YouTube, starting around the 2:30 mark with the introduction of the studio head). I really wonder how it performs on the Switch, since it was one of the better looking games back then.

hell blade is a short awesome game. its one of the best games i played in years tbh. its very atmospheric , and audio wise i'd give it a 20 out of 10. i too am looking forward to how it'll run on the switch and its pre-ordered for me (but not prepaid. fuck prepaying).

also, better looking games back then? it still is imo. not many games do better imo.
