Loved GX even though beating it on higher difficulties was too much for me. Really sad that F-Zero never made it on the N3DS. The 3D effects would be been nice, and I say this as someone who has permanently turned them off.

Well, I guess it all depends on if they can figure out something new to do with the series. In an interview, Miyamoto complained that the series hadn't evolved much and they had already done everything that could be done. Just releasing a digit advanced game with better graphics is unfathomable to Miyamoto!
Miyamoto (twice translated) Wrote:I am also very curious and I would like to ask these people: why F-Zero? What are you missing that we have not done yet? He has elaborated since then: Miyamoto (translated) Wrote:If we create a new type of controller interface, and we find a controller interface that's particularly suited for F-Zero, then maybe we'll do something with it in the future, AMD Threadripper Pro 5975WX PBO+200 | Asrock WRX80 Creator | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 FE | 64GB DDR4-3600 Octo-Channel | Windows 11 23H1 | (details)

I was able to beat most chapters but the one where you had to escape with Jody Summers is way too brutal that I just gave up. Even with advanced techs, it's still very difficult. 03-12-2018, 03:28 PM

I can understand that Miyamoto and co. might not have a vision on what new things to add to F-Zero, but perhaps they ought to consider that every entry doesn't have to be something "brand new" or move the series in a different direction.
I was just talking about the new Kirby game with some folks. Apparently some people who played weren't happy with it since it's not much new. It looks pretty much like Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe with the buddy system from Super Star turned all the way up. But, you know, it's a Kirby game. Just needs to be bright, colorful, and fun to play. It doesn't have to redefine the franchise a la Breath of the Wild or anything. Sticking to a known formula isn't always bad, and with some franchises it just works. I think F-Zero is like that too. You just gotta drive a hovercraft really fast around a track. No need to strain yourself trying to innovate and get something that's never been seen or done before. It's okay to focus on incremental improvements and overall quality rather than trying to invent features or try to force the series forward with new ideas. I get that ever since the N64, Nintendo has really been into their controllers and trying to integrate that into their games. More power to them. But sometimes I think they get hung up on the concept way too much. The Switch as-is was good enough for Fast RMX. I'd even go so far as to argue that F-Zero was very enjoyable on the GC because Nintendo didn't try any fancy tricks with the GC controller's design. 03-12-2018, 05:13 PM

I see Master Miyamoto's point, but it sounds a bit hypocritical to me.
Take Mario Kart. I mean, I love Mario Kart, every episode steals nights with my friends. But did they bring something new they haven't done before on the latest iterations ? You can tell me "new races, new pilots, new bonuses, better balancing, enhanced gameplay"... All these things can apply to a new F-Zero. Why doing it for Mario Kart and not F-Zero ? I see two reasons for this : - Mario Kart sells way more than F-Zero. - Nintendo / Miyamoto probably still remembers how GX's development was a nightmare because of frequent confrontations between SEGA and Nintendo about how the game should be. It's ironic because the majority of players thinks GX is a very good F-Zero, if not the best, but Nintendo sees it as a unsatisfying game because they don't agree with SEGA's decisions. Thus, they don't know what to do with this franchise anymore. Plus, GX team is now full time on Yakuza series so there's no way Nintendo or SEGA will allow them to do a F-Zero right now. I would appreciate a port or at least a Virtual Console release of GX on Switch so we can play it on HDMI without the need of an good upscaler to counter bad scaling and input lag.
From France with love.

Was thinking the same thing after I made my previous post. MK games are very incremental these days. MK8 is a lot like MK Wii + MK7. They took the bikes from MK Wii, gliders and underwater racing from MK7. The coins have been there since Super MK on the SNES (although it doesn't show up in half the MK games). And of course, they recycle tracks from every other MK game ever made, just with modern updates. Newest/biggest addition was anti-gravity sections. That's cool, but not earth-shattering or even a game changer. Same can be said of Sm4sh. Granted, it's not NIntendo EAD making it or anything, but it still needs Nintendo's stamp of approval. Anyway, just felt like an update on roster/stages with tweaks to gameplay to eliminate some of the flaws from Brawl. But other than that, it was incremental, not revolutionary like from Smash 64 -> Melee. 03-13-2018, 05:08 AM

I don't get why people think this way about Kirby in general. Not every game needs to innovate. Kirby going 3D is certainly a mixed bag. 03-13-2018, 09:04 AM
