Quote:Nintendo has discontinued production of Wii hardware. The news was spotted by Cheesemeister3k last night on the company's Japanese website.

The Wii home console was released on November 19, 2006 and introduced
motion control as a primary method of control. The console featured
full backward compatibility with the GameCube software library until the
feature was removed in by a product refresh called “Wii Family Edition”
in late 2011.

As of June 2013, the Wii sold 100.04 million units worldwide at retail. The successor to this console, Wii U, features full backwards compatibility with Wii's software library.
It seems that after 7 years of life Wii production has officially stopped. There are so many games personally that i loved in this console and plenty of font memories...

At least, the Wii will retire with the job done. What job? Give the players a whole new gaming experience.

They'll still be on store shelves for some time yet as they slowly move the remaining stock. They may even do some pricedrops to clear them out.

Doesn't seem that long ago when I was watching videos on this new revolutionary technology that was about to come out. Time flies.

This was the first console that actually made me play stuff with my family again. It was a pretty decent console with some amazing gems (Xenoblade, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, etc)

And nothing of value was lost, since they removed Gamecube compatibility some time ago...

Offtopic: My opinion is that I hate disc-based consoles. My Wii lens broke twice, same as my fat PS2 (luckily my Gamecube survived all this time without problems). Now the only way I have to play Wii games on my Wii is using an external HDD, thanks to homebrew channel.

And now it's even more important than before to have working emulators like Dolphin around. Of course you could always use a Wii U for all of your Wii gaming needs, but even the Wii U will cease production sooner or later; it's just a matter of time. Hardware preservation ftw.

I actually played all my games from an external hard drive since it loads so much faster.
Yes, I agree with that statement Shonumi.

That Sucks, Glad Dolphin Emu is around so that way people can still play it, and then buy the games they want to enjoy Smile
