Just change the kernel, if you want native access to external USB storage.

FYI ES file explorer can see USB storage even on a stock 5.0 device. You just need to enable it in the file explorer's settings. Now if you are using the usb device to store your roms during play this won't help.

Yes, applications can access connected USB devices. If they incorporate an implementation of the USB Mass Storage protocol, they can read/write individual sectors. If they also know how to parse a partition table and traverse the type of filesystem that the partition uses, they can access individual files - just like any other ordinary application running under a sane OS instead of this 1990s bullshit that Google has served up.

Didn't Google fix this mess with Android 5.0? At least FX File Explorer can fully read/write microSD cards and USB storage devices in Android 5.0 by using Storage Framework (or something like that). The user grants permission once (the app ask it while it's running) and then everything just works. As far as I know, FX uses only built-in functions of Android OS...

We're not really arguing about permissions. We're arguing about BS lack of USB OTG natively on many android devices. I suggested a file explorer, but that's not as effective as the goddamn OS just mounting a USB stick properly. 12-23-2014, 05:04 PM
Wow, I thought USB OTG was already supported in all recent Android devices (2013+). Forget about FX File Explorer then, it only works with USB storage if USB OTG is natively supported in the device...

USB OTG is something different again, it means the device can act as a USB host and applications can access any connected USB devices. That part works fine but the point is applications should not be required to access external drives as USB mass storage devices (since that requires them to implement their own USB and filesystem drivers), they should get auto-mounted and be accessible via regular file I/O. Like on any Samsung tablet, or other Tegra devices that weren't screwed up by Google...

All Wii games im booting on the Nexus 9 is running 50-80% compared to the shield tablet. Comparing gamecube games, im getting almost the same speed. Anybody knows why the Nexus 9 is so much faster running Wii games?

Probably becuase the NExus 9 is the 64bit Denver Core unlike the Shield tablet which is using the weaker 32bit Tegra k1? That would be my guess as to why you are seeing faster Wii Games.
