Hi guys, I'm wondering why newer builds are a lot slower...

My current favorite revision is r7673 which I don't have any issues with, except that I just recently got Kirby's Return to Dreamland and the game isn't compatible with that revision, so I had to download the a newer one (3.0-204 64-bit).

3.0-204 runs Kirby's Return to Dreamland perfectly, however... I can't run a lot of games I have in this revision at 100% speed like the r7673 revision does, for example Twilight Princess, Sonic Colors and F-Zero GX, on Twilight Princess I even had the resolution set at x1 and no AA and I was barely getting 20 fps on Hyrule Field, whereas I get constant 30fps with x2.5 resolution, x4 AA and 1080p with the r7673 revision.

I doubt it's my computer (Core i7 2600k @4.5Ghz, GTX560ti, 8Gb RAM), so I'm just really wondering why is this, I hate having to use two different builds just because I'm not able to play the games I have.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I wish that was the case for me, Simpsons Hit and Run runs at a fps of 30 to 45.

Must be their emulating more stuff and more is slower?
I liked the part where it worked, except there was no such part.

Well the newer builds were made to perfect accuracy (which is the main objective of an emulator) so all those newly added features may cause slowdowns but since the older builds don't have all these features they tend to be faster but your computer should emulate anything to near perfection

But now that you say it, in Twilight Princess the mini-map and distant objects on look pixelated on 3.0-204, whereas on r7673 they look smooth and anti-aliased, in Sonic Colors there are graphical glitches on 3.0-204, whereas on r7673 there aren't any.

I'm just seeing better compatibility with newer games for the newer builds, but it's taking a step back when it comes to some of the games it had already perfectly supported.

Those are all test builds, they have several bugs, everything should work well in 3.0 official release

You are using direct 3d 11 and your old builds are texcache rewrite ones. Texcache rewrite fixed, increased speed and made some games look better but at the same time created a lot of issues with other games that weren't fixed and it was abandoned since summer. Just because you are using a couple of games all the time doesn't mean that those builds were more accurate overall (they weren't). Also efb to ram is used in direct 3d 11 in a unigue way making that blurring in the distant objects, it needs caching enabled for scaling. The minimap scaling in ZTP was one of the couple of fixes that texcache rewrite introduced.
Just some games that i can think right now with serious issues with those builds you are using :
Final fantasy crystal cronicles gc
Some NHL gamecube games
The Trauma center series Wii games.
Spectrobes origins,
and others...

I usually separate my games in one folder each, then test in which revision it runs better for me, and configure that revision for that single game only. One emulator for each game. Then I create shortcuts to each, put some cute icons for each game and organize in a master folder that has the Dolphin Icon on it. It's gorgeous. Tongue
