NEWBIE - Xbox series S - can't get controls working

Newbie here - I am unable to get the joysticks to work - I have assigned them in the pc version on my laptop but not sure how to transfer over usb to xbox.

I am sure it's simple but a video I watched said L3 and backup to bring menu up - no idea how to do this!

HELP
