Hi All,

I have a few newbie questions here, sorry if this has been repeated. I took a look online here in the forums and couldn't find the answer and have been searching online but can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I am interested mostly in playing the Just Dance series of games and am wondering which controller I need to purchase. I believe I need a Wiimote with Motion Plus, but do I need the Nunchuk controller as well?

Also do I additionally need the sensor bar and what purpose does it serve? And if so can it be a generic one or does it need to be a certain brand.

I have two usb to bluetooth adapters and I guess I need these to connect the Wiimote to the computer?

Also is it possible to use an android phone as a controller?

Sorry for all the questions just having a hard time piecing all the information from different sites together.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks

T

The Just Dance games require a Wii Remote, have optional support for MotionPlus (MotionPlus makes the motion tracking better but the game works fine without it), and do not support Nunchuks.

You can either use a real Wii Remote or emulate the controls using a device with an accelerometer, such as an Android phone. However, I'm not sure what the user experience is like with an Android phone, since I've never tried it myself.

If you're going to use a real Wii Remote, you need a Bluetooth adapter. You will also need a sensor bar if you want to be able to navigate the menus using the Wii Remotes, since the pointer won't work otherwise, but if you don't have a sensor bar you can always emulate the menu controls using something like a mouse instead. A cheap no-brand sensor bar is fine. Don't buy the Mayflash DolphinBar unless you understand what makes it different from a normal sensor bar.

Hi JosJuice,

Thanks for your quick reply. I really appreciate you helping clear up my questions.

Is there a specialized Bluetooth adapter for Wii I need? Or is it just a usb to bluetooth adapter that gives my pc bluetooth capability which then I am able to connect the Wii Remote?

I guess I will have to do some more research into the configuration for emulating the menu controls by mouse and also the Mayflash Dolphin Bar because I don't understand the difference and I am sure there must be a lot more features that it provides.

I just wanted to see which hardware was required as opposed to recommended.

Also if I did want to play other games would the nunchuks be required? Just wondering if it would be better to get both at the same time?

Thanks again,

T

The latter.

Yes, there are many Wii games that require a Nunchuk. I would recommend buying one at the same time if you're also interested in games other than Just Dance.

Hi JosJuice thanks for your reply,

I went ahead and purchased a 3rd party controller and nunchuk, I will attach a picture in this post. It has built in motion plus. I am having a hard time getting any of my bluetooth adapter to find the controller during a bluetooth search.

I tried to hit the sync button and also tried to hold the 1 and 2 buttons at the same time while trying to add it in bluetooth devices. Unfortunately it does not locate the device.

I have tried 2 bluetooth usb adapters:

belkin F8Y018

D-LINK DBT-122

I also tried a HP laptop with built in bluetooth.

Is there anybody that can help me with this? do you think it is a problem with the controller or am I doing something wrong?

I also tried clicking enable bluetooth passthrough with no luck.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance!

Sorry, also forgot to mention that I tried in my bluetooth settings on my phone just to see if it would find a new device but it looks like it doesn't see the controller. Does this sounds like a defective controller or something else going on?

Please if anybody could help, let me know.

Thanks,

T

If you're using third-party Wii controllers, then you'll have to set up the drivers for Bluetooth Passthrough. Keep in mind that your experience can vary adapter-per-adapter, and your bluetooth radio might not be usable for passthrough. I'll link the guide here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Bluetooth_Passthrough

Thanks Kookies,

I tried to follow the Bluetooth passthrough guide and install the libusbk driver in Zadig. It did not connect to the controller and actually my bluetooth usb adapter stopped showing up under Bluetooth in Device Manager and now shows up under libusk. I tried to uninstall the driver but now it shows up under USB devices instead of Bluetooth devices. Do you think that this device is now toast?

It is a belkin F8Y018.

At this point should I assume that the controller is just not compatible?

Would I have to buy a used original Wii controller or can you still get new ones somewhere?

Also, is there an approved model number? Motion plus or no motion plus? I looked at the compatible list but it looks like it was posted a long time ago so just want to make sure info is still correct.

Thanks for the help on this board and look forward to figuring this out and any response is appreciated.

Thanks,

T

I ended up buying an original Wii remote but I am having some issues connecting the controller to the computer through bluetooth in windows. When I try to connect in windows bluetooth settings, i hit the sync button on the controller and while trying to pair the controller it asks for a pin. I have tried 0000 and 1234 but it doesn't connect.

I tried to follow the Bluetooth passthrough guide and install the libusbk driver in Zadig. Can anybody give me some help with connecting the controller?

Thanks,

T

You do not want to connect your wiimotes through Windows, also after using bluetooth passthrough it should show like it did for you. You will want to connect your wiimotes in dolphins controllers settings and scaning.
