New to this "New Super Mario Brothers"

I got a really good monitor a couple of days ago and want to try New Super Mario Brothers on it but when I try to start it a new game and click on number of players and then all that left on the screen is a moving background until it errors out. I think at one point an error came up saying the wiimote went out of sync. This is my first couple of days using this...how can i get this to work?

forgot to mention that i am using a xbox 360 controller with xpadder ^_^
