That's not really the right place to talk about that, but thanks

Well, happy birthday delroth. Share it with my brother.
So, y'all have obviously convinced me that I need a video card. Likewise, I might need to get a better cooling unit if I intend to overclock. Not planning on playing any adventure games like SMG or LOZ, so hopefully I can avoid that for now. If I am sticking with Mario Kart and sports games (Madden, NCAA Football), I am hoping I won't have to overclock. The video card sticky thread says that Radeon 6570+ is good for 3X IR for 1080p. I am looking at the following. Any thoughts on these? Don't want to go spending money on it if it won't play Dolphin, which is my main goal for getting one. SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (11192-22-20G) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102988 SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6570 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (100324L) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102942 ASUS EAH6570/DI/1GD3 AMD Radeon HD 6570 1024MB DDR3 PCIe 2.1 x16 Video Card http://www.microcenter.com/single_produc...id=0382890 Diamond 6670PE32G AMD Radeon HD 6670 2048MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.1 x16 Video Card http://www.microcenter.com/single_produc...id=0382891 Thank you! 08-23-2012, 12:21 PM

I'd recommend this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130808 GDDR5 is much better for Dolphin. And it is a little bit faster as well. If you want an AMD equivalent, here ya go: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102958 But they should be about equal in terms of performance. 08-23-2012, 10:29 PM

Any thoughts on OC'ing? The Mario Kart thread has a lot of differing opinions, and there aren't really any sports games threads to speak of that I would try for (Madden, NCAA). Thanks again. Sorry to be a bother. 08-23-2012, 10:43 PM

The GT 630 is actually a rebranded GT 440, so yes, it would be just fine for dolphin. Should do 2.5-3x native in many games.
As for overclocking, try and see if the games run reasonably fast at stock before considering overclocking. EDIT: This is an insane deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130534 This is a top of the line older card, and is worth more than twice the price they are asking for. That's a STEAL. And it can DEFINITELY do 3x native. If heat or fan noise or power consumption aren't issues, than get this card, stat. 08-23-2012, 11:10 PM

MicroCenter has it for the same price after rebate, and I am fortunate enough to live in a town with a MicroCenter, so I can get by there and get it. Let me bug you again, if you don't mind because your last comment worries me (which I saw after typing out this message). I tend to run this, mostly, as an almost-24/7 HTPC and watch plenty of TV and movies on it. Is it just too loud for that? Is it going to destroy my power bill? I'd probably have to add fans? Didn't add any to the stock from my Cooler Master HAF 912 (This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as..._-11119233). I know, at this point, you're basically holding a child's hand, but I really, really appreciate it. 08-23-2012, 11:12 PM

It won't bankrupt you or anything, but probably will add a good $30 to your power bill, and be fairly loud (not so much that it overpowers your TV, but still), as for fans, I dunno, you'd have to see for yourself. |
