You can buy a Wii for the price of the upgrade (doesn't worth it).

I got a Wii and it's only 50% of the wii price. Also, the processor isn't only used for Wii, it#s safer for the future as well I guess @4Ghz. I'll just update my GFX card in a year and I'll still have a strong system.

Where the hell do you live where an i5 2500k is half the cost of a wii!?!? I MUST KNOW. Here in the United States an i5-2500k is $225 and a wii is $180-200.

I think it's wasteful to spend over $200 on a cpu with only the benefit of a slightly higher clock rate. And then go even further and spend another huge pile of cash on a motherboard to overclock it a little bit higher.

If you really want to future proof your system wait for Ivy Bridge to come out before you upgrade (next spring).

The upgrade costs is about 50% of the wii all in all. The i5 2400 costs money as well, you know. Wink

When ivy bridge is out everyone will say wait for xxx bridge so...that's a non valid argument imo.

Not so. You have a very high end sandy bridge cpu, the only benefit you get by upgrading is a slightly higher clock rate since nothing better than sandy bridge exists right now (except for hexacore gulftown chips which dolphin won't benefit from). But you're saying you'de rather make that upgrade than wait a few months for a better chip to come out so that you can make a MEANINGFUL upgrade that actually has some significant benefit and helps you future proof. Your logic is equivalent to someone from early 2009 stating they will spend $225 to upgade from a 2.4GHz core 2 quad to a 2.66GHz core 2 quad rather than wait 4 months for nehalem to come out which will likely offer much higher performance for the same or a slightly higher price. That logic is either the result of someone with absolutely no financial limits or it's borderline retarded.

That's what I'm saying. Where do you live where upgrading your CPU + mobo costs only half as much as a wii?

I think you meant to say it the other way around. "A wii is about 50% of the upgrade cost all in all." or "The upgrade cost is about 200% of the wii all in all." or "The upgrade cost is about double the cost of a wii all in all." would all make perfect sense but your sentence does not make sense.

Sorry, I should mention: I just bought the new PC. I can give the old proc back, get a full refund and use this refund for the new one. The difference between a 2400 and 2500k is about 25€, the difference for the motherboard is 20€. So now you get why I want to do this? Wink

Yes. You used the word buy instead of trade in so that threw us all off.

In that case I would do it. The 2500K will be about 10% faster without overclocking and up to about 28% faster with overclocking.

Is there something like a beginners guide for overclocking the i5? I'm planning to go for 4GHZ.

Very first result from googling "sandy bridge overclocking guide": http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overclocking/39184-p67-sandy-bridge-overclocking-guide-beginners.html
