I got this new laptop for my birthday and I wanted to know how it would fare in terms of being able to hold up in running GC games on dolphin. The pictures below show the specs of my computer, I would also like to know which options would get the best performance when using this computer.

The cpu isn't powerful so demanding games are out of the question. Same with your gpu. Wind waker or NSMB Wii are some games that will run decently on that with hle audio and efb to texture.

well, congratulations on the gift, but im afraid to tell you that intel HD graphics are not the best choice to emulate any game ( you can still run some games, but dont expect high speeds) or maybe is a computer with boths discrete and integrated graphics, if it is so, please attach a screenshot showing the discrete graphics.

can the cpu be "turbo-boosted"? , if u can, do it, it will improve the emulation speed and also is safe to do so because its supported by intel, its not like overclocking.

try running some games and post some screenshot with the FPS and graphics/sounds setting used.

you did not answered my question, does it have any discrete gpu that goes along with the integrated? i cant tell if the graphics config is good , but i suggest you to turn of anti-aliasing and anisotropic filter for better fps thing that you have already done, try searching on the forum which config fit the most for the game you wanna play.

DOLPHIN DOES NOT NEED A LARGE AMOUNT OF GPU POWER

Sorry for caps there, it's just that it needs to be drilled into so many people's heads so hard, and yet hardly anyone retains the information.

Having a bad GPU will NOT decrease emulation speed, as long as frame skipping is set properly, as no emulation is done on the GPU.

Under the emulation menu, go to the Frame Skipping submenu. Fiddle with this value until VPS is 100%, and FPS is still at a playable level.

Also, you seem to be running an old version of dolphin. Update to the latest development build and see if it gets better.

Skipping non existing frames makes sense. You do realize the game has to run at full speed anyways to make frame skip work, right?

Frameskipping will not speed things up.

I updated to 4.0-705 and now the game starts gets in to a couple startup screens and logos for the game itself then freezes, and I am on default settings for everything. Also I only have the 1 gfx card. I was using 4.0.2

Wait

i5-3317U.

That's why dolphin performs so badly.

Apparently, according to people who actually know what they're talking about when they talk about Intel stuff, the U denotes being an ultra-low power version, which is also really weak. This also concurs with how AMD does it, or at least DID it until they stopped producing things at a blinding pace, so that they could try to evenly compete with both intel AND nvidia at the same time.

Unfortunately, unlike with the phenom-II-based ultra-low power processors that AMD made, I don't think you can unlock it to a higher-power version of the processor. I'm not sure, though.

EDIT: So what the guy way up there said, but a lot less concise.

It's not a "card" . Intel HD is an integrated GPU which is built inside CPU chip
