New Installations - How to retain saves and settings

I thought this might be an easy solution to find but I can't seem to find it anywhere. With the ever evolving release versions of Dolphin I need to find an easy way to retain my settings and games saves (not Save States - I know where that file is) for Wii and Gamecube. Right now all I do is overwrite the old files with the new files, a brute force method that works but always leaves me changing my settings.

So first question: is there a smarter way?

Second Question: for reference which files are what in respect to emulator configuration, game saves, or related? i.e.xyz.cfg (located in dolphin/x/y/z) = wii game saves

If there's another thread out there covering this I can't seem to find it. thanks everyone!

just install the new rev over your old rev...
your saves are not overwritten...

every save is a new file
user/wii/title
there are the save files...
with a new rev the folder is empty and untouched... so No Problem
rightclick on a game / show savegame folder makes the trick

but i just copy the new rev over my old... no problems

yeah, just make sure you click "do not copy" for files with the same name.

and the new dolphin.exe is named dolphin1.exe? Big Grin
just copy over all files... there are no savegames in the new rev
it could be that the settings are gone, but thats the smallest problem
