Should we keep the blueish background of the icon, and just replace the image?
Or should we go for an entirely different color scheme?

Below, I have attached two more images with the blue background used from before, and then an orange/yellow background.

I think the reason that the original icon didn't have all that much detail was so the icon didn't look exactly like a Nintendo character. Using a Nintendo-related image or character is probably not a good idea for obvious reasons. I think the star would work if you removed the eyes since those eyes are what really makes it Nintendo-related. That's just my opinion.

What would be the reason to use the star if we took away the eyes? They are the only thing that would remind people of Mario. Tongue
Plus they are just too adorable to remove.

(I have attached an image below for illustrative purposes)

The same reason for using the Mario outline but not the actual Mario full color picture, so the owner of this project does not get sued by using a Nintendo Licensed image illegally. I know it's better to just use the image the way it was intended, but Dolphin does not own the rights to those images. In order to use them, they would have to be altered a bit. That is the idea behind the outline of Mario in the original icon and the removing of the stars here. You gotta change the image just enough so it's legal but still looks something like a Nintendo image.

The outline of Mario is original to this emulator, it has been there since the very beginning and can not be changed without the entire community in favor of it.
Who's to say we even need the baby blue background. Why not experiment with a more larger variety of colors.

Hey guys how about this one, found it on Deviantart made by tempest. Looks very nice http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=gamecube+icon#/d1y7zvo

Well I managed to change the default Dolphin.exe icon using ResHacker, but, as you can see somehow the taskbar icon stays the same. Is there any way someone could recompile the whole exe with that icon from devart page? Thanks in advance! Smile

Hmm.. I think it does look pretty cool, but we can't forget about nintendo's copyrights to the gamecube logo.. :/
