Hi im running dolphin at the moment on.

core 2 duo E6600 2.4ghz @ 3.6ghz
ASUS p5b deluxe
ocz 8800gtx

i want to upgrade for dolphin
what cpu would be best out of
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz

I have seen that E8600 can hit 5GHz (around 4.5 on air + plus i have a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme so should be easy)

is it really worth the extra (£50) for the QX6850? basicly what chip will run dolphin better.

Hmmm. Neither one is outright better. The core 2 extreme is quad core and would have a slight edge in performance per clock from being able to run background processes on seperate cores plus it has an unlocked multiplier so you can raise the core clock speed without raising the bus speed. However it will generate far more heat and therefore you will be able to clock the e8600 much higher. Since you have a decent mobo I would go for the e8600 since it should be able to handle the higher FSB frequency.
