Thanks guys.
Sounds like the i5 3570k is the preferred choice for wii. Think i'll see what I can get this for. My only worry is the height of the cooler. I will need to factor the height into my bartop. I'm still in the design stage so it's good that I get all the space required inside sorted early on. For ram, should I get 4gb or will I need 8gb? I'm from the England so have been looking at UK sites. What do you guys think of this? It's pre assembled and configured in the bios and I could mount the cooler fan on the back of the bartop straight out the back so it won't stand too tall. It's also mitx which is small enough for my bartop. Is 4.2ghz enough for smg and smg2? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-3570k-4-2G...70&sr=8-40 Unless you guys can point me to a better bundle. I've never fitted my own cpu and cooler but i'm sure it shouldn't be too hard. The smallest mobile I can go go is matx, a full size won't fit in the bartop.
Windows x86 = 2Gb Ram
Windows x64 = 4GB Ram 8Gb Ram is better overall but zero benefit for Dolphin . Ether get 2 sticks G.skill RipJaws 2x2 or 4x4 , dual channel is better than single channel Quote:Also, what wattage psu do you think i'll need to run this and the gtx 650?500W 80 Plus Bronze Quote:Also, slightly off topic but some games require you to shake the wii remote such as Mario kart wii when in the air. If you arent using a wii remote with the dolphin emulator is there a key or something that can be programmed to emulate the shake?Config via Emulated Wiimote (shake X Y Z) Quote: Is 4.2ghz enough for smg and smg2?Very good for SMG 1 & 2 +LLE backend Laptop: Mini PC :: 11-15-2012, 01:37 AM
You're no judge on what has a pretty low price; you have a Macbook Pro Retina!
High frequency memory (~1800MHz) can be reasonably expensive, so if you'll use this rig for nothing that wants the extra, don't bother buying too much. Also getting high frequency memory will give you only a ~2.5%-7.5% speed boost, and only really when EFB copies to RAM is on, so it's cheaper to get low(ish) frequency RAM, and if your rig isn't fast enough, just take the CPU 100-200MHz higher.

hi
ok ive looked into getting the i5 3570k, pricewise seems fine, i can get an asus z77 board, 8gb g-skills, bronze 80 plus psu , 2 tb hdd and a gtx 650 for around £500 from ebuyer. The only thing still worrying me is the massive cooler i will need to o/c this chip and im wondering if i will be able to fit it in my bartop. I have seen a corsair h60 water cooler for around £50 and i could have the fan attached to the back of the cab going straight out, rather than just recirclating the air inside. The worry i have though is if this cooler leaks im going to be down hundreds of pounds and needing a new setup. so alternatively, Is there a good priced low profile cooler that does a good job in keeping the i5 3570k chip cool even when o/c'd?? Or i guess i could go revisit my first thought of the i7 3770 in turbo mode at 3.9ghz?. what fps on smg and smg2 are we looking at with this processor? would iut run gamecube games 100% sorry to still be asking questions. There's no real advantage to get a 3770(k?) compared to a 3570k (11-17-2012, 04:18 AM)shepster34 Wrote: what fps on smg and smg2 are we looking at with this processor? You'll get good speed but not full speed if you plan to use LLE (that is really recommended for these games) (11-17-2012, 04:18 AM)shepster34 Wrote: would iut run gamecube games 100% Most GC games will run fine

The Thermalright HR-02 Macho is a very good CPU cooler, but it's quite big. If you want good cooling in a small case, go for a water-cooled cooler.

I've heard good things about the corsair H-series. They're supposed to be much simpler to set up and less likely to leak than similar ones.
