New build (I'm REALLY perplexed!!)

Greetings...

I'll be ordering my new PC in two days, & It goes without saying that it's built with the purpose of emulation in mind (Dolphin and PCSX2.)

I'm confident about everything except for the GPU...
here are the specs

CPU : Intel core i5 2500-k . ( I'll overclock when necessary )

Motherboard - MSI P67

GPU - ATI 5750 (VTX)

My question is : With these specs, can an ATI 5750 decently run just about any game that is currently playable in Dolphin ?

How much difference will I get with an ATI 5770?

btw I definitely can't afford a 58xx

The 5750 is a 128-bit card, the 5770 is a 256-bit card. When looking at their specs, this is the most significant difference between the two. If you must choose between these two cards, please get the 5770. Personally, i'd highly recommend you look at the GTX 460.....it'll perform a little better and has better driver/software support. It might be $10-$20 more than a 5770, but you'll benefit from the GTX 460 features/performance in the long-run (compared to the 5770).

I agree with r2rX get a GTX 460. I had 2 5770 in cross fire and they fucking sucked. ended up getting 2 5850.

wow! this GTX 460 seems awesome, and it has perfect benchmarks on pcsx2 as well! Especially considering its price. Thank you very much guys!

- will a 400W PSU be sufficient after I get the GTX 460 ?

C-how frequently will I need to overclock my CPU in order to get decent performance. I'm mostly interested in Tenchu 4 on Wii and Metal Gear Solid on Game Cube

Probably not...
I recommend you to get the card and a 650W PSU (Corsair preferred), and if it doesn't work with the 400W, you can use it...
U can also get the money back if 400W is enough.

You will probably have to overclock it to ~3.8-4.2GHZ, should be enough for these games.

(I dunno if it will work with the stock cooler, ask someone else for this)

And btw, please do me a favor and get a GTX560, more future proof

GTX 560s are the same price as a GTX 460 for most vendors right now and perform 1/3 higher while consuming less power and running a bit colder. I see no reason to get a GTX 460 these days.

I wouldn't recommend overclocking your 2500k on stock though. My CPU gets really hot already on stock settings right now.
So if you're interested in overclocking, you should invest in an aftermarket cooler.

As for the GPU, I would recommend a 6850 or 6870 if you're going with AMD. Or a 560TI if you really want an Nvidia.

Get a decent cooling kit, such as the Coolmaster Hyper 212 Plus, which is a fantastic air cooling kit which is priced very well and will work great for your CPU overclocking needs... and the only main difference between the GTX 460 and the GTX 560 (based on default reference board) is 48 CUDA Cores (GTX 460 = 336, GTX 560 = 384).

They're performance is quite close to one another...so if budget restrains you to getting the 460, that should be fine.
