So, my friend and I wanted to play a game on netplay. I tried to forward my port, but I have no idea if i am doing it correctly. I went to my router settings page and allowed the 2626 port. I tried looking at that portforwarding site that everyone kept mentioning. It didn't help me at all. Oh and do we both have to forward the port? Please help. We have the exact same dolphin model and games.

I have a problem as well. My friend and I set the same port number and IP, the settings are all correct yet it tells him he failed to connect while I'm hosting. I don't have a router and he has forwarded his port. Can someone tell me whats going on?

I also have this problem. I have already referenced to the 3.0 guide as well as the many other netplay posts. But the only thing i keep coming across is people with the same problem who either get ignored, or fix the problem on their own merits and then fail to explain what they fixed. It just erks me that other ignorant questions like downloading games that shouldn't even be on this forum are replied to and legitimate legal questions are not.
Responding to pirates and improper threads is easy. Diagnosing networking issues, where any number of factors (firewalls, routers, connection setup, network layout, etc) could be at play is a bit more difficult. This is further compounded by the fact that we're dealing with two people here (the user here and their friend), and we have no way of knowing if that friend changed something or says they did it right but really didn't. The OP can start the process of finding an answer (hopefully) by providing some key info.
What kind of network are you playing on? LAN or across the internet? Do you have a third party software firewall (often from anti-virus products) or are you using the one with Windows; if so to either, have you and your friend granted Dolphin access? What do your netplay settings look like exactly? In my opinion, it's better to test out netplay with yourself first before doing it with a friend (if you have at least two Dolphin-ready computers). Start by hosting netplay on a local LAN connection, then if that works, see if you can connect to your host from the internet. If all of that works, then try this with a friend. 09-04-2012, 12:23 PM

I have a router so i forwarded the port 2626 correctly. He doesn't have a router so that is irrelevant we have matched everything in the checklist for making netplay playable. but everytime we fail to connect to each other whether it be im hosting or hes hosting we can never connect to each other. We are using the correct IP addresses too. Just everytime it says, failed to connect. We are trying to get Super smash bros Brawl to work btw. We both have the same version of dolphin too. 09-04-2012, 05:13 PM
And what about firewalls? The router might be set to forward the port, but if either your computer or his doesn't allow traffic on that port, you'll get connection errors.

The firewalls arent an issue as we have tried it disabled aswell as making exception. we have followed the guide precisely and have done every measure of troubleshooting... 09-09-2012, 01:04 PM
Try setting up a LAN and connecting to yourself with two computers for Netplay. This will remove as many variables that you can't control as possible. If that doesn't work out, my guess is that the problem is a networking issue somewhere with the OS or hardware rather than Dolphin. I know using a tool like Wireshark might sound dramatic, but it might prove quite insightful if all else fails.

I'm saying that there's still quite a lot more that can be done to determine what the problem is. This is networking; the issue could be just about anywhere down the line, on part of the sender, receiver, or both. It's not like every instance of Netplay will be easy to diagnose and summarily fix. I'm suggesting that you start small, testing it with yourself (the LAN idea), then have a deeper look at what raw packets you're sending and receiving (the Wireshark idea). |
