Netplay Ping

I was wondering what could cause Netplay's ping to get pretty high?

Me and a friend were playing Tales of Symphonia Netplay and it was running super smooth, no desync, no lag, no high ping. Then today we tried again and the ping was at 130 ms which caused the game to stutter frequently. It was still somewhat playable, but my ping and his ping would randomly shoot up from 130 to the 600's randomly and we would get large stutter and lag. This didn't happen before and we did ping tests on various sites and we were in the 15-25 range. We have our ports forwarded and we also don't have firewalls that could potentially be blocking anything. Are we missing something? We want to go back to the smooth game play that we were having before.

P.S. It isn't our hardware causing it. We have high end comps, not toasters.

I'd blame the ISPs first and foremost; Dolphin isn't doing anything out of the ordinary to my knowledge. Try another emulator (lockstep) netplay system and see if it has the same problems?

Especially if it was working before, yeah, I'd blame your ISP/home network equipments. You might be getting some packet loss. Are you using Wi-Fi on either side?

We'll give it a shot when I get home from work.

We went on ping test and we both got 0 packet loss, between 15-25 ms ping with 1 or 2 ms jitter. We also did a test on a server from eacothers states (I did the test on a server in Cali where he lives and he did the test in an Arizona server) and we got the same results. So from these tests we SHOULD be golden, but for some reason there are spikes. We are both hooked up through ethernet
