If we just start a netplay, without two controllers so to say. so that the other part can just see what's going on, then it works perfectly. but as soon as we add the second controller it lags to shit, the speed goes down and there are major FPS lags.

why is this? how would you fix it?

Is this Netplay over Internet, over LAN, or on the same computer? What are the computer specifications (mostly CPU/GPU/RAM)? Are the Internet connections... good?
What game are you both trying to play? Are you using the same emulation/graphics settings?

In theory, if a computer from one side is bottlenecking (as in, if the CPU or the GPU or the network is "outpowered" by emulation), then it's likely going to lag onto the other side. This is for the sake of synchronizing controller outputs on both sides.
My computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66Ghz - 2GB of DDR2 RAM (400Mhz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512

i'm running:
i7 950 @ 3.07ghz
Geforce 295 GTX
6 GB RAM
i'm on a 100/100 internet connection.

and the other part has similar

we are running netplay over the internet.

the wierd thing is just that it works perfectly all the way until we add the second controller.
so I don't think it should be an issue with the specs or the connection, since it works until that point.
seems like a bug to me.

also thanks for replying!

If only 1 dolphin instance in the netplay session is supplying controller input, ping delays will not affect the game.
Messages are only going one direction.
The dolphin receiving all the input frames will view a delayed version of the game.

When both dolphins are providing input, they must both send and receive input before they can advance.
Increase the "pad buffer" to compensate for large pings.
