So, I checked up on the emulation scene after a long hiatus and saw Super Smash Brothers Melee being played online. Needless to say, I was excited. I got the newest Dolphin and tried it... But got nothing. Clicking NetPlay didn't even give an error message or crash or open any sort of window. It just did nothing. I'm running on a 64-bit CPU (single core, though), but it was a 32-bit OS (Linux), so I did a clean install of Ubuntu, 64-bit. Still the same problem. I can play the game fine (though very slowly).

Does anyone know what the problem is? It's the normal version of Dolphin on the main page.

well first off even if you could get it working people who can normally play at fullspeed have major lag because it's dependent on both peoples internet connection. It's also very buggy and not enjoyable

Still, I'd just like to see it working. I'll be getting a new computer once a new wave of hardware comes out.

I just want to at least see the "find server" menu. Just to debug it.

You'll need SFML for the netplay to be built-in, i just saw it will still show in the menu even though SFML is not there, so clicking on it will basically call an empty function that's why it does nothing :p

Also, huh netplay is still quite slow on net, though it works fine on LAN, so it needs more work.
I still don't know about the "It's also very buggy" part, maybe you'd care to tell me more so i can fix it somehow ? :o

Thanks for the first helpful response... However, I installed everything having to do with sfml (Simple and Fast Media Layer, right?) in the package manager and ran Dolphin again. Same problem.
