Netplay Blank Screen?

Hi, this is probably an error that many people find, but a google search hasn't given me any helpful results. My friend and I, earlier today, tried to set up netplay for the first time. We downloaded new versions of Dolphin, 5.0-1828 to be specific, but when he hosted and launched the game, our games immediately froze on the black screen. When we tried to set it up on my computer, there was some sort of IP problem, which I don't think is relevant to netplay. Please advise.
