Netplay

So, how exactly does netplay work? Does it work like kaillera/Final Burn Alpha/ZSNES where, it emulates your friend's controller as the second input? Or does the game itself have to support netplay natively?

It's just controller sync.
Native netplay will take some (probably never) time.

So in other words if my friend has the emulator and lives only a few miles away, we should be able to get online and play with hardly any lag?

no , the netplay is too laggy . Also It can't keep the sync between the players

Whoa. That video shows a lot of things, netplay, good speed, etc.

But it isn't. Slightest of lag will put gameplay out of sync making it not comformable to play.
