Oh, actually I just realized Dolphin had settings for the bar's position and IR sensitivity. Correcting the position setting and lowering the sensitivity from 5 to 4 or 3 added another ~2 feet to the working range between my wiimote and this cheap wii bar. The range's probably still not as far as Nintendo's wired bar's, but I'd guess mine's about 70% of the original's range now.
