Oh and it needs to be a PCI-e x16.

um
or 2.0 since it's reverse compatible
in that case
GF8800 is the last pcie gpu afaik
after that it was pcie2

and reverse compatible....in half speed

Not really, it IS true that pcie2.0 has twice the bandwidth than regular pcie, but to saturate that bandwidth you need a card of the order of a 4870x2.
After all, most "SLi" motherboards run one card in 16x mode while the other card runs at 8x mode, which also cuts the bandwidth in falh. So running, say a 4890 or a gtx 275 in your slot will reduce performance probably by 10-20% but nowhere near half. You can always get the video card now and then a better motherboard whenever you want to upgrade other components.

that depends on what speeds the card runs at anyway
if you take a card which uses max pcie2 bandwidth (to lazy to lookup its max) and place it in pcie , it WILL run half speed

pcie2 cards these days haven't gotten max bandwidth yet afaik so its just a basic thing i remember to make it easier for others. cause really, not many non techy like us will remember/like this kinda of talk just to know if it'll be worth buying lol

but even with the small decrease in speed i'd rather not do it anyway, just to be sure Tongue
i mean, M$ says Xbox 360 is 100% backwards compatible with Xbox
guess again >_>
