Need advise for laptop

There's also some Sager notebooks that are more in your price range that I think would be better than the ones you were looking at.

The Sager mentioned a few posts back is about the same price as a few of the ones you posted in your first post.

If it helps any, I have a Toshiba Satellite. It's not the greatest, but aside from the resolution I got what I paid for(about a grand), mainly because of the memory and touch screen lol. It stays pretty cool and takes whatever I throw at it(within reason, of course). I also wiped my HDD and did a fresh install of Windows 7 because I hate Windows 8(and because of the Toshiba apps I didn't want).

Their Qosmio line is pretty solid, but I would still recommend going towards a Sager because of the better cooling and newer graphics.

The only problem with those Sager laptops you posted is that they're all single heat sink designs, and thermal throttling can occur.

Yea I did notice that as well, but personally I think they would be a better choice than the Asus laptops that cost a little more.

Truth to be told, I'm seeing the Sager ones as game-dedicated laptops indeed like Alienware ones, but I don't feel ready for them yet regardless of the budget (personal and maybe "psychologic" reasons if you want...).

That's why I was asking about more "conventional" brands. It's not exactly it, but just to give an idea: if something happened to the rig, it would be less painful if it's a "conventional" than a Sager or Alienware. In fact, I think this kind of "philosophy" helped me a bit in keeping the previous Dell Inspiron rig I used to have for long enough.

Another truth to be told, I really don't know that much about brands in general, only what I've read or been told (though I did have bad experiences with HP, Samsung and Sony). I had read Lenovo was good indeed, until you mentioned those are aimed for business and don't have very good cooling. I was told Asus was not too bad, but I really hadn't heard or read too much about MSI or Toshiba. Acer I've seen are good ones as well, but there are not many Acer ones with Nvidia and those with it are normally more expensive.

So, now that you mentioned Toshiba, do those ones have generally good cooling? Or better MSI or Asus?

Alienware is literally just an overpriced Dell(no, really, Alienware is owned by Dell, it's one of their brands). There is literally no reason to buy Alienware unless you like paying too much money for a flashy case. They get advertised as being "top of the line" but they're just overpriced and flashy looking(not that they're not good notebooks).

Asus and MSI are pretty much the same quality as each other, they're both companies that make a lot of aftermarket/OEM hardware along with their own line of computers. Your manufacturer warranty is going to function the same for any of the brands listed in this thread, along with extended warranties. The main difference is that the "conventional" brands you're speaking of can be found at common retail stores, whereas gaming laptops are more found at specialty stores or web stores that do custom builds.

The Qosmio line from Toshiba has cooling on par with the Asus/MSI laptops that we've been discussing. The cheaper Sager that I linked to are about the same, but when ordering from that site, you have to option to have it built with better thermal compound on the CPU/GPU to make the cooler more effective. Plus, they're cheaper.

At this point since you're planning on investing a fair chunk of change, I would take the information you've got so far here(feel free to ask more questions if you have them though), do some searching on the web, read reviews, try to learn as much as you can so you can make an informed decision that you'll be happy with.

From what we've been discussing though, the verdict you're going to get from both of us is probably going to be a Sager at the end of the day haha

Well, let's say I'm aiming a bit more for "conventional" brands because of those... "personal" embarrasing reasons. Also, from what I'm seeing right now, I'll not be able to spend that much, I'll be able to get something very close to around $1,000. Say, $1,100 at the very very max.

Like I said in a previous post, I'm not a constant exigent gamer, but when I play -either PC native and emulators- I do it for fairly long (not that long like all daytime, but you could say half a day to give an idea). So I'm interested in some rig with at least a fairly enough default cooling system.

I'll try doing some searches, but if you have some few more advise about "conventional" ones given what just has been said I'll be grateful.
