Hi all, RPG fan here Smile

Short story : I bought Xenoblade Chronicles last year but I do not own a Wii.
A friend of mine lent me his Wii for a month so I was able to play Xenoblade Chronicles. However, I had to give it back last week and was not able to complete the game yet. I copied the save files from the Wii on a SD card (I have a data.bin file). That's when I found out about the dolphin emulator

Unfortunately for me, my dvd reader cannot play the Wii disc. Is it possible to create an ISO image of the game disk for the dolphin emulator using a standard DVD burner?
Also, can I use the wii save for the dolphin emulator?

thank you

You need a special DVD drive with certain firmware. Have a look at this thread: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-howto-dump-wii-or-gamecube-games-with-pc-no-wii-needed

These drives are getting kinda rare, especially the models that can read dual-layer discs (if there are any, I think I've heard some are, but I'm not sure). XBC is a dual-layer DVD, so that's going to make your search for a suitable DVD drive that much harder.

Does your friend have his Wii hacked, or is your friend willing to install the Homebrew Channel on his Wii? The process is simple, and the chances of bricking a system are slim from what I've seen. Using a homebrew app like CleanRip, it's possible to have the Wii itself make you an ISO file.

I've tried my three drives at home ; would appear none of them is able to use the raw dump program or none of them are able to read the Xenoblade chronicle disk :S
I'm not sure if my friend will let me mod his wii (and besides, aren't there risk of killing the console?)
What other options do I have?

Aside from using certain DVD drives, the only other way to dump the game with a real console. Contrary to popular misconception, soft-modding your Wii is pretty safe, and there are simple, step-by-step guides available online. If you want, save up $80 (the cost of less than 2 games these days), then go buy a used Wii, then hack it to your heart's content.

Out of curiosity, can you extract a save file if you don't have the game? I was playing around the dolphin interface and found the import save files option. I wasn't able to import my save
