So I finally managed to connect my controller through a USB passthrough and I wanted to make a mii for playing games such as Wii Sports.
While I've managed to get the Wii Menu working fine, I can't navigate it with the d-pad on my controller (I actually can't remember if you are supposed to be able to do that anyways).

How can I navigate the menu without a dolphin bar?

First, I'm not sure whether you meant DolphinBar literally (as in the specific product from Mayflash), but in case you did: You can use a sensor bar which is not a DolphinBar.

Second, you can use a Classic Controller. This works for the Wii Menu, but it might not work for the Mii Channel... I haven't tried it.

Third, if you need this just for making a Mii, the easiest thing to do might just be to use an emulated Wii Remote instead of a real Wii Remote. Then you can just use your mouse.
