In the November Update

It states that native motion controls were added,

How do we activate these controls?

They are activated by default. If you want to turn them off or on, you can do it at Configure Controls > Motion Controls in the in-game menu.

They do not appear to be working for me on my Google Pixel 3a XL, are there any known bugs which would cause this?

No, I don't think there are any known bugs. Which game are you playing, and is the controller set to either Wii Remote, Horizontal Wii Remote or Wii Remote + Nunchuk?

I am currently trying it with New Super Mario Bros Wii, My controller configuration is Wii Remote + Nunchuk.
