Hey!

I am fooling around with computers and stuff at a new place I moved into, trying to figure out what all I need. For kicks, I just tried running two instances of Dolphin and booting PSO I&II (Plus) on each. It worked.

With limited testing, I was able to play both games at 30FPS on maxed out settings (4x Internal Res, etc) on this GTX 750 Ti.

I was wondering if it's feasible for me to run four instances of PSO I&II (Plus) and connect to one of the online servers, then play locally with my friends. We totally could just split screen the game on one Dolphin instance, but you lose a fair amount of content by playing offline.

Does this sound like it could work? Any advice on setting it up?

Assuming you're using dual core mode, you would need a CPU with at least 8 cores for that to work (and potentially more than one GPU). It would make much more sense for your friends to run Dolphin on their own PCs. I'm also not sure how the TAP adapter would react to multiple Dolphin instances. It seems to have a hard enough time with just one. Tongue

I dunno what the "TAP adapter" is, but two games ran fine on here--each at 4x internal resolution with 8 sample AA and Anisotropic Filtering x16.

It would make more practical sense to use four computers, but I'm trying to get everyone to crowd around in the living room and hopefully all use my TV. It's possible I'd be able to swing this between my living room (60" TV) and my studio (two 24" monitors) using my two computers, but I'd prefer to have everyone in the same room.

You must install the OpenVPN TAP adapter in order for Dolphin's BBA emulation to work, but having four instances of Dolphin on one PC isn't exactly an expected configuration. Your usage situation is exactly what splitscreen mode was created for, so it would make the most sense to just use that.

I get that what I'm trying to do is literally what splitscreen mode is designed for but a lot of PSO's content and function gets lost.

Also, having four Windows to work with allows me to better use my widescreen real estate. But it's also worth working through a few headaches for my friends and I to be able to communicate in-game with smiley faces when we're neglecting and/or frustrating each other. Tongue

Just asking about having a great experience instead of "just" a good one!
