Multi-core beyond just two?

Sorry if this has been asked already, I couldn't find a relevant thread when I searched. What are the possibilities of there being some quad or octo core business going on in Dolphin? I'm not sure if there is a technical limitation or if it would be unnecessary, but I'm pretty curious if this can/will happen
