Missing part of image

I've been searching how to fix this for a few days now and it's driving me nuts.

Basically, I've been playing Skies of Arcadia Legends and it's working well except for the fact that parts of the game are missing on each side of the picture. It's not like the image is cut off by my resolution or anything, it's just plain missing. I tried different internal resolutions, aspect ratios, window sizes, backends, shader compilations... I pretty much tried to check/uncheck every option just to see if it would fix it but to no avail. The "Crop" option is disabled. The UI and text don't seem to be affected. I'm in 4:3 and not 16:9, and I'm not using the widescreen hack.

I watched multiple Youtube videos of the exact same scene, and they're all fine, nothing's missing, both on Dolphin emulator or Gamecube.
I tried searching online for a solution or at least someone with the same problem but nothing... 


I attached a picture of the problem. Left side is Youtube, right side is my PC. I added red rectangles to show exactly what's missing.

Your image isn't loading for me, but I'm guessing that the problem is that you're using Dolphin's built-in widescreen hack. First, turn off the widescreen hack. Second (optionally), if you still want to play the game in widescreen, apply the widescreen Gecko code available here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?t...Gecko_Code

I am not using the widescreen hack. I'm in 4:3. If I use the widescreen hack, then yeah I see much more of the picture, but I want to keep the original ratio. The Youtube videos I compared to are also in 4:3. 
I tried using 16:9 without the hack and it's still missing part of the picture.

Yeah, that image works. I see now that the problem you're having is not at all the problem I was thinking of. Since less of the 3D world is visible but all the 2D text still is visible, I guess there is some difference in the parameters for the 3D camera... I'm actually not sure what could be causing this, unless maybe the video is made on the Dreamcast version and the Dreamcast and GameCube versions have different camera parameters for some reason? Or maybe the camera parameters could be different between PAL and NTSC? The 《》 characters look slightly different in the two screenshots (look at how they are not as tall as the V in the video screenshot), so I assume you are not actually playing the exact same version of the game as the person in the video.

I think you might be right... I tried comparing different videos on Youtube and found some with the same camera as what I'm getting on Dolphin... However, I did find this playthrough which is clearly Skies of Arcadia Legends on Gamecube, and the camera is the same as what I showed in the screenshot.

This is really strange... I'll try a PAL version maybe, just to see if that changes anything.

That video still has the different 《》 characters, so it seems like a different version than the one you have. Furthermore, the video is running at 25 fps, which means that it likely is the PAL version.

Yup, you were 100% right! The difference with the camera is between the NTSC and PAL version of the game. I never would have thought about that lol.
Why would devs change the camera settings between the two versions tho? That's weird...

PAL has more lines than NTSC, so the image on the PAL version is a slightly taller aspect ratio. Because perspective cameras are usually defined by vertical FOV, the result is the visible area remains the same vertically but is reduced horizontally. Henceforth, the image on your PAL version will appear slightly cut off on the left/right sides compared to the NTSC version (though you get improved vertical resolution!). It's not that the devs have done this intentionally, it's just a consequence of the different video standard.

Ah, interesting. I guess it depends on how each game handles the resolution difference.
