Axxer is right, the GTX 650 is a significantly faster card on average.

Axxer Wrote:The only reason they have similar performance in your case was because the CPU was bottle necking your GPU.

Right again (obviously).

sirkingchase Wrote:My CPU is Phenom 960t unlocked to x6, I had it conservatively overlocked it to 3.2

After reading up on Dolphin-emu, I learned that its more CPU intensive rather GPU. I overlocked my CPU to 3.8 and now Im getting steady 60 FPS.

Granted this is only Mario Kart, I will test Metroid Other M in a few days and post back with results.

This confirms the CPU bottleneck.

sirkingchase Wrote:Should I keep the 250 in it? It runs hotter and uses alot more power.

Yes, it's a much better card.

sirkingchase Wrote:I have not figured out how to use internal resolution,

It's pretty straightforward. Just change the internal resolution setting in the video backend settings.

sirkingchase Wrote:it makes everything too big, its like only seeing a corner of a screen.

Then something is very wrong. Dolphin should scale the rendered image to your selected output resolution before output no matter what you set the IR to.

What type of display are you using?
How is it hooked up to your PC?
What is your fullscreen/windowed resolution set to in dolphin?

Axxer Wrote:Dolphin is CPU intensive because of the JIT recompiler and changed one Wii CPU instruction into multiple x86 CPU instructions.

It's a bit more complicated than that but I'm sure you know that so I guess the details are unnecessary here.

Your changing the IR in the Enhancements tab right? I don't know how you could go over you screen res in the General tab settings, but you never know.

Yeah I don't feel like writing an essay on the matter any time soon.

I figured it out. I was adjusting screen size and ir.

Iev been playing with the settings and I got it working perfectly on 1x ir.

Is ir dependent on GPU? Ex. Since my cpu handles 1x ir perfectly, my bottleneck now fir increasing ir is my gpu? Also does openGL version make a difference? 2xx cards have version 1.2 whereas newer cards support version 4

If the IR gets high enough the GPU will become the bottleneck.

I don't think OpenGL version matters very much. OpenGL is slower in Dolphin than Direct3D anyway (unless you are using Linux, in which case D3D9 is about the same speed on Windows as OpenGL is on Linux).

This also depends on the game, settings, and GPU/drivers.

Some GPU architectures handle openGL on windows much better than others. In addition to that even if most games run faster with d3d9 some may still run faster with openGL.

AMD/ATI doesn't have 2xx cards, they have 2xxx cards. And those cards support openGL version 3.3, not 1.2.

As long as your card supports openGL 2.1 or higher dolphins openGL backend will run fine. Supporting newer versions of openGL won't benefit you because dolphin doesn't use them.
