1.3.1 is live.
Singleplayer now runs on top of a local server. I need someone to test if I can setup a minecraft LAN server by using a VPN.

Woah, thanks for the update!
Check out the changelog here. It's too huge to post here. What VPN are you going to be using? 08-02-2012, 11:02 AM

Hamachi I guess?
I can't even remember the last time I used a VPN. It would have been back in the days where the only other alternative for most multiplayer games was gamespy (shutters at the memories). Edit: Figures they got bought by a company called logmein that now requires you to make an account.

Lol, must've been a long time since you've looked at Hamachi then.
They've been with LogMeIn for years now. I ditched Hamachi when I found out about Tunngle, but that's for when you want to have LAN parties with other people in the lobby. You can go to an empty lobby though, but people can join whenever they want. (Not that that matters anyway, since you can password your server if needed) I guess the only stable option now is Hamachi, if you wish to make a private network. Unless you forward your ports. 08-02-2012, 11:07 AM

Well, do you have a particular VPN application that you use? It looks like tunngle could work.

Haven't used a VPN in a long time either.
You have to register an account for Tunngle iirc. So, since you have to register for both, pick one you want. 08-02-2012, 11:16 AM

I'm going to try both.
Both require an account, and both are free for personal use. I've downloaded the current hamachi client already. I'm downloading tunngle now. I'll keep in touch via PM from here on out so I don't fill up the thread with another personal conversation. Edit: Well after both of us tried a million different things we ended both completely disabling windows firewall and our router firewalls. After which we were both still getting the "Connection refused: connection" error. Googling the error shows that the error is usually caused by a firewall.......so we gave up.

If anyone wants to try out the creative server that I setup it will be online (hopefully) during:
2:30 P.M. - 1:30 A.M. Eastern standard time or 19:30 to 6:30 GMT IP Address/Port: 65.3.96.24:25565 This is my workstation not a dedicated machine so I can't guarantee that it will be online all the time during that time slot but I will try. Also if I am encoding a video it may lag. And god help you if I'm downloading/uploading something. It may lag if you have more than 2 or 3 people on at once due to my piss poor internet. Server Specs: 2 mb/s downstream (1 mb/s effective thanks to the wireless router being on the other end of the house, which also increases the latency) 256 kb/s upstream core i5 661, clarkdale, dual core, 3.3GHz 8 GB of RAM I will eventually move it to my lower power laptop for a 24/7 linux server: 1.86GHz Pentium M 1GB of RAM Either way my internet access is going to be the bottleneck so it shouldn't really matter. Rules: -don't fuck up other peoples stuff -don't go crazy detonating TNT everywhere, you make my server cry in pain -don't bother with the nether, it lags like crazy -leave some space, don't build right next to other peoples stuff I'm too lazy to grab some plugins and play around with build permissions at the moment so please don't make me do that. I've been using it to demonstrate redstone circuits lately.
