Mic Won't Work For Mario Party 6

I set the mic to memory card slot B and set a mic button for the controller in port 1, but no matter what I do it will not register any voice commands in the game. I tried both holding down the set mic button on the port 1 controller and using it as a toggle. I even tried using a separate microphone and that didn't work either. Both were set as my default mic device when I tested them and the recording devices window registers sound in both of them perfectly.
