How do i make my character strafe left and right? i set the mainstick left and right to A and D, but it only allows me to turn to left and right direction.

Are you using a WASD setup? It won't work like that for Metroid Prime, where the A and D keys strafe left and right. You can still strafe, but it's a bit more involved. IIRC, this game uses pressure sensitive controls. When you click on the GCPad in Dolphin look under Triggers when you configure your controls. Make sure that you have a key mapped to L-Analog. Something sensible like the Left Control key might be good. You'll have to hold this key down whenever you press A or D, else Samus will just turn her head left and right.

No, WASD is fine, but it is a pain to configure. I made a preconfigured controller file just for Metroid. Extract the attached file under Dolphin Emulator\User\Config\Profiles\GCPad and select that controller profile from the GCpad menu.

Note: You cannot strafe and look at the same time, and the mouse will not move very fast as it is pretending that it is the control stick and A and D are emulating a keypress of both Left and L-Analog.
