I may be in the minority, but I find the controls in Metroid Prime to be awful to the point almost ruining the game. The problems are:

1. Not being able to use the C-stick to look around while moving. Having to press a button to look around, which also forces you to stay in-place was a horrible design choice on the part of the game's developers.

2. Auto-centering of the stick while looking and aiming. Annoying as hell!

Is there any hope of a hack to make this game control more like a modern FPS? Did they fix these flaws in 2,3 or Prime Trilogy?

I didn't play the GC versions, but I think it's better in 3 and trilogy since they use the wiimote IR.

In the Prime Trilogy all three games are adjusted to the Wii Remote control scheme, but Metroid Prime 3 did basically not change since it already used the Wii Remote from the start. Ohh, and widescreen support of course. But the first and second game are also available separately as part of the Wii's New Play Control! series which adjusts GameCube games (only select games such as Pikmin or Metroid Prime were re-released) to fit the Wii Remote control schemes. The widescreen support is cool too.

Ugh... You are completely correct on this. Yeah, I only own the Trilogy disc. I do own both New Control Play! Pikmin games, but that's about it. I was aware that Metroid was available for the New Play Control! But yeah... It is Japan only.

I have metroid 3 and it is a little bit better with the wii remote. At first it can be kinda hard getting used to because the screen moves to putting your aim off point. Then if you switch to basic it can be hard to look around.

But yeah I wish they made the controls a bit better and that would make the games phenomenal. the 2nd metroid is basically the same control scheme as the first.

After working on cheat codes for two games now, I can say that it can definitely be done. At worst you'd just bypass the game code entirely and just update the memory addresses directly, but there's probably a few lines in the code you can delete to get it done. I probably won't do it, but if anyone is feeling daring and needs a guide, I can tell you how to start.

I think if you're looking at the movement and controls as the main draw of Metroid Prime 1/2, then you're going to be sorely disappointed even with hacks. The game is actually best as an explorer + platformer, so, even with the added ability to control the game more like Halo, it won't make that much of a difference.

Metroid Prime 3's Alpha, on GameCube, used the c-stick for aiming, and while it did make looking around and shooting things easier, they compensated for that power by making the game a helluva lot more action oriented. It doesn't benefit Metroid Prime 1/2 the same.

My bad. I read the forum section (hacks, cheats, etc) and just assumed it was ok without reading the rules.

Apologies.
